Suavito, ridden by Luke Currie and trained by Nigel Blackiston, upstaged a star-studded field at the CF Orr stakes to win the first Group 1 race of the new year.

2. Lucky Hussler
3. Hucklebuck
4. Turn Me Loose
Group 1 racing makes its return in 2016 with the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m), and with a quality field the 2016 edition promises to be a beauty. Join The Roar before the race start time of 4:30pm (AEDT) for tips and late mail.
There is so much talent in this race with previous Group 1 winners a plenty that it is going to be tough to pick a winner. Just two runners have been up for a while (Lucky Hussler and Messene) with the majority of the field either coming into this race fresh or off one start.
The winner will join an illustrious list of previous victors which includes Black Caviar, Typhoon Tracy, Elvstroem, Saintly and Jeune.
An interesting stat is that the last six favourites have won this and all started sub $3. But this is the biggest field the Orr has attracted since it was granted Group 1 status which makes things a little trickier.
If you are perhaps going off the barrier then Messene out of barrier five is the most successful with four wins while Suavito’s barrier one has produced three winners.
I’m going to throw a wild pick into the mix and go with Suavito here. The five-year-old mare resumes here she won the Futurity Stakes this track/trip first up last prep beating Dissident (who won this race last year). Prior to that she beat mares fresh.
Suavito has all the boxes ticked to win this one and at $17 could be a good way to kick off the year.
Boban showed glimpses of his best last prep and has a great record at this track picking up two wins from his three starts including the Memsie. He has trialled well and has all the class to be a threat here, $9 looks a promising quote.
Turn Me Loose trialled well at home and has a tremendous record and is a proven weight for age horse. Quote a bit short for mine but could trouble them based on previous form.
Trust in a Gust has to be included here, has a tremendous record at this distance. Looked a bit fresh last start, but performs well at this track and is a proven Group 1 winner, a chance at $17.
Others to include are perhaps Rising Romance who was 1.5 lengths off winning the Memsie first up last preparation. At $31, a sneaky hope.
Bow Creek from the John O’Shea yard another one to include as well. Rebel Dane, Lucky Hussler and Entirely Platinum among the rest.
Brent Ford selections
1. Suavito
2. Boban
3. Turn Me Loose
4. Trust in a Gust

Blackiston said it was really good for the supporters and owners of the horse. What a great race, I hope you got on. Suavito going to the Futurity, to win that first up after a lengthy break she is special, and I love her. That's all from me, hopefully there is much more to come.

Currie said she was strong to the line, credits the trainer Nigel Blackiston always gives her a chance. Blackiston said her trials were excellent and hopefully she is in for a good campaign.

Currie with an absolute gem of a ride, Hucklebuck sneaks it along the rails it opened up when Turn Me Loose was there.

Red Bomber silly price, can't see it though, same with Awesome Rock, Rising Romance could mix it up here, silly at $50.Suavito my tip looks a picture but she is steady, money coming for Turn Me Loose now $3.70, Boban drifting to $15!

Hucklebuck perhaps a bit fat in the yard, gate the query. Trust in a Gust getting out to a silly price, he is giving them some toe in the yard though giving trainer Darren Weir a workout. Stratum Star looks good, Messene the WFA is a query won a jump out in good time. Entirely Platinum one to include, Bow Creek perhaps a surprise here from the Godolphin yard.

Lucky Hussler looks good, probably has some fitness and he looks rock hard in the yard, Rebel Dane had a good run at Moonee Valley last start has form second up. Mourinho could cause headaches here, Turn Me Loose one I really like, he is getting into $3.80 continues to get the support.

Trainers n the yard, Fawkner has three wins first up but think this might be stiff first up. Happy Trails one of Australia's favourite horses, not the day. Whyte is on Boban, some quiet trials, he loves this distance first up so is a huge danger, looks beautiful, relaxed and happy, some condition to go.

Market looks a race in two with Turn Me Loose and Lucky Hussler at $4, Boban at $9 and then Bow Creek at $10.
