2016 Rosehill Guineas: Racing preview and results

By Brent Ford / Roar Guru

The Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) could give Mick Price the perfect start in his attempt to do a Guineas/Slipper double. Join The Roar before the race start time of 3:50pm AEDT for commentary and late mail.

Tarzino is Price’s chance here and he bolted in the Victorian Derby back in the spring, and is clearly one of those horses that improves off the back of a Group 1 win, because his two return runs over unsuitable distances were superb, particularly last start when he went within a hair of taking out the Australian Guineas.

Jameka, another Victorian, is second favourite, she’s had a good autumn without being outstanding but was good during the spring in mares grade only, this will test her and perhaps is under the odds.

Big fan of Le Romain after taking out the Randwick Guineas, looks a progressive type and should improve on that last run and provide some value at $7.

Only question is he hasn’t raced beyond a mile, so the step up in distance could be an undoing.

Vanbrugh is another Group 1 winner, hasn’t been all that inspiring since the win in the Spring Champion but we know he can run this distance and $10 looks a great price.

Can never underestimate Waller horses either as he seems to always have them peaking at the right time.

Cameron highlighted yesterday that Gold Ambition and Montaigne were the fast finishers in the Randwick Guineas, and neither had things go their way. Either could well have won that race, so they are huge chances over 2000 metres now. At double figure odds they look juicy.

Happy to take on Shards and Etymology.

River Wild finished a length and a bit behind Tarzino in the Australian Guineas, did beat Vanbrugh and Jameka home and could provide some value for punters.

Huge question marks on where the speed will come from, maybe River Wild? Of the rest I think they are making up the numbers.

Brent Ford Selections
1. Vanbrugh
2. Tarzino
3. La Romain
4. Montaigne

Tarzino will now go to the Derby and looks like he will really battle on well with them.. Mick Price "We tried to win the Guineas but we ran out of a bit of luck, he's a great horse to train with a bit of fight about him, he's just a really good colt."

Tarzino continues to edge closer along the fence, I'm Belucci still leads from Jameka then River Wild and Tarzino waiting for a run but there is a pack of them behind.

Le Romain jumped well Tarzino as well and same with River Wild, Jameka going forward as well but I'm Blucci will take it from Jameka, River Wild and Le Romain and Tarzino, Gold Ambition and Montaigne and Vanbrugh who is caught deep. Spanish Stride last.

Tarzino if he gets into the clear will be extremely hard to beat with 800m to go.

Maher said Jameka has had a few gallops to change direction to get her used to the place. Reckons Oliver was happy with her work.
