Richmond Tigers vs Adelaide Crows highlights: Crows cream uncompetitive Tigers

By Joel Erickson / Roar Guru

Match result:

The Crows are serious contenders in 2016, as they’ve knocked off a finals aspirant in convincing fashion for the second straight week.

REPORT: CROWS SCORE EASY WIN

It was a close first quarter, but the Crows kicked away from that point to record a 19.14 (128) to 13.14 (92) victory. It was the turnover that produced most of their scoring, as they kicked 12.10 (82) from that avenue, compared to 5.9 (39) from the Tigers.

The Crows have shown that they’re very dangerous so far this season, as they’ve gone over 120 for the second straight week. Douglas, Walker, and Betts all kicked three goals, while they had a further four players with two. This spread makes the Crows a very dangerous proposition for opponents, and if they can keep this up, they’re every chance to go deep into September.

The Tigers have been disappointing so far in 2016, and this just continues that start. After their heartbreaker last weekend, to come out with this kind of effort is inexcusable. Although they had a lot of the ball (three players with 30+), their skills are somewhat lacking, and Hardwick has a lot of work to do to get this squad into form.

Final score
Richmond 13.14.92
Adelaide 19.14.128

Match preview:

The Richmond Tigers are out for redemption when they host the Adelaide Crows at Etihad Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 2:10pm (AEST).

Last week the Tigers gave up the three late goals, including one with less than five seconds to go, to lose by a single point to the Magpies.

As a result, Damien Hardwick has swung the axe, with Taylor Hunt, Jacob Townsend, and Ben Griffiths all to play in the reserves (and Dylan Grimes out injured), while Troy Chaplin, Daniel Rioli, Shane Edwards, and Ben Lennon come into the side.

The Crows were impressive last weekend, downing the Power by 58 points in Showdown 40. They dominated the first quarter and a half to win that game, as they led by more than ten goals before the midway point of the second term.

Adelaide have named an unchanged side for this clash, and with good reason after their performance last weekend. Brodie Smith is due to play in his 100th game of AFL Footy.

This game should see two of the best go head-to-head, as Alex Rance should start on Taylor Walker. If one of those two can have a good win in that contest, they’ll go a long way to leading their side to a victory.

Prediction
The Crows were impressive last weekend, but the Tigers in Melbourne are a different challenge. While they haven’t been impressive yet this season, the Tigers are a very good side, and they should put it together this weekend.

Tigers by 16.

I'd be very impressed if the Crows go deep into DECEMBER.

I am honestly surprised they got within 50. Same with Essendon last night, knew that would be a massacred. Like Essendon, Richmond are rubbish.

6' The Crows have five players around the footy, but they've managed to give away a silly free kick to the only Tiger. Not that it matters at this stage. Tigers 12.12 84 Crows 19.13 127

BEHIND CROWS 9' The Crows have managed to hold up the Tigers' momentum, and it's becoming harder with every elapsed second. Ellis punts it outside 50, but it'll come back inside through McGovern. 11' Strong defensive mark from Martin, and now Short is free on half back. He goes short to Chaplin who has a win against two Crows. Houli handballs back to Chaplin, and he'll send it inside 50. Riewoldt and Hampson both fly for this one, and they get in each others way. That's another offensive mistake from the Tigers. Tigers 12.12 84 Crows 18.9 117

BEHIND TIGERS 13' The Crows win the clearance, but the Tigers win the footy at half back. Now a brave mark by Grigg, and that'll get them free. Chaplin marks on the wing, and he comes inside to Brandon Ellis. Houli handballs to Martin, and he'll go short to Lennon. He hits Grigg inside the 50, and he's got a chance for the Tigers' fourth on the trot. He won't make the distance from 50, and it's punched through. Tigers 12.12 84 Crows 18.9 117

GOAL TIGERS 14' Three in a couple of minutes now for the Tigers, as Hampson takes a great mark directly in front. Hampson hasn't kicked a goal in a couple of years, but he gets this one. Surely they couldn't... Tigers 12.11 83 Crows 18.9 117
