Off-contract Brisbane forward Matt Gillett wants to stay at the Broncos despite interest from rival NRL clubs.
The 27-year-old Queensland and Australia representative is the top target of several clubs including Gold Coast and Cronulla.
Brisbane are reportedly unlikely to be able to come close to the money rivals can offer Gillett, who is believed to be earning $450,000 a year under his current deal.
Gillett though says he has little interest in moving away from Red Hill.
“Broncos are a successful club that’s why so many players want to be here,” Gillett said.
“No rush, I’ve just got to sit tight and play footy.
“Any player goes through it in their careers … it something that happens regularly.” Broncos teammate Adam Blair says the NRL leaders are building a strong unit at the club and he’d love to see Gillett stay.
Blair himself was the subject of a big money move from Melbourne to Wests Tigers, where he failed to meet the expectation that came with his salary.
The New Zealand international says Gillett would do well to heed his own experience.
“If you think you’re going to be happy somewhere else, go there, but at the end of the day everyone around you including yourself and your family need to be happy,” Blair said.
“For our sake, at the Broncos, hopefully he stays with us.”

Your kidding yourself mate. I really don't understand the broncos paranoia that's been getting amped up lately, before last year they'd been struggling to make the 8 for about five years. Plenty of teams are stacked with rep talent in the nrl, it comes with having the premier comp in the world. Just have a look at the roosters (that's after the players they lost), or the bulldogs or the sharks or the warriors, all are stacked with rep experience.

Why? If Gillett wants to stay in his home town for unders why is that an indication something is wrong with the cap?

I guess How was stating the fact that MIlford would get picked for origin if not suspended and Hunt should also get picked on form above Cronk. I also agree with the Roosters having too many stars in their side. Just goes to show that the strong clubs will get stronger and the weak clubs will fade.

That wouldn't save much given he doesn't get much...

Why would you include 'their best two players' if they haven't played origin yet? By my count the Broncos have nine origin/test players in their squad and that is being generous to include Reed and let's not forget when Blair left the Tigers he wasn't getting starts for NZ. When the roosters get their injured players back they will have eight origin/test players in the starting lineup, the Cowboys, Sharks and manly have six and the list goes on.

In a previous article on this site - about who would get picked in origin today the author chose 7 Broncos. This list did not include their best 2 players of Hunt and Milford, nor the internationals Reed or Blair. Now I might be overlooking something but how can one team possess so many stars and remain under the cap? To my math that is 11 of the 13 run on team. The Broncos look very much poised to turn back the clock to the 90s where their entire team were origin or Australian players! How can this happen?
Are you kidding

If the Broncos can retain Gillett there is something terribly wrong with the governing of the salary cap!!

As if he'll be the one we drop. Reed would be the first to be given the flick for sure.

Gillo should treat it as a business, once the Broncos have salary cap problems they will drop him like a hot potato, he should take the big money on offer.
