I agree, almost all stadiums have a different vibe after going under some sort of reconstruction. Some of the originality is lost.
You're right, a financial move, and a smart move on behalf of the board. The streets were electric around the Boeleyn and unfortunately, in my opinion, it won't be the same.

What hadn't changed though was the relationship to the community outside. Nothing beats the feeling of the streets around grounds like the Boleyn.
Moving makes financial sense and the 50000 season tickets sold attests to that. But I doubt walking through a shopping mall will have the same effect.
