Melbourne have locked in exciting fullback Cameron Munster’s services until the end of the 2019 NRL season.
The 21-year-old has played 28 games since making his debut in 2014 and has grabbing the opportunity presented by Billy Slater’s injury woes to show his wares in the No.1 jersey.
“I decided to stay here because Melbourne gave me my first opportunity,” said Munster, who has played all nine games this season, scoring three tries and averaging 169 metres a game.
“They have done a lot for me and my improvement in my game and also it is a great city to live in.”
While Munster is heir apparent to Slater, 2017 might present coach Craig Bellamy with a selection dilemma.
Slater has had two shoulder reconstructions in less than a year but intends to return for next season, which is expected to be his last.
It means his outstanding understudy could face a move to the halves or centres.
Rockhampton-born Munster will play in his home state on Saturday when the Storm take on North Queensland as part of the double-header at Suncorp Stadium.
Munster joins teammates Tim Glasby and Christian Welch who have both recently extended their contracts with the club.
