The Stormers escaped a very embarrassing loss by having a slightly less embarrassing 17-all tie with the Sunwolves, despite scoring two tries to one.
REPORT: STORMERS SNATCH DRAW WITH SUNWOLVES
The Sunwolves took advantage of their humidity, their humility, fast scrums and fast loose scrums. This trapped the Capetonians into conceding penalties and territory.
The Stormers lead by 3 points at the third minute for a total of 2 minutes. After this the Sunwolves dominated the penalty count due to ruck infringements by the Stormers. Their only try game came at 11′ was a beauty, combining speed, guile and a combination of skills by an ensemble of backline players.
The first Stormers try was after a run of favourable Ref calls. In the end, it was a maul drive and latched pick drive that got them the first five pointer. The stop-go nature of the match dotted with turnovers and dropped catches, favoured the Sunwolves who had a handy lead.
The face saving last Stormers try, was started by a solo effort by Kolbe, and ended with replacement front rowers to score.
Final score
Sunwolves 17
Stormers 17

The Sunwolves have won only one match so far this season from a home game. They will want to repeat this result, this time from a foreign home stadium. They have rested their star hooker Shota Horie, who will finish the game instead.
The Stormers have retained their power front row, with Vincent Koch kept at reserve. Frans Malherbe is the Stormers co-captain along with outside centre Juan de Jongh.
The Sunwolves props will try to stop them. This includes Japanese international loosehead Shinnosuke “Kaki” Kakinaga. He is a man of Sumo proportions at 118 kg. On the other side is fellow blossom 115kg Masataka Mikami, who has played more times for Japan (32) than the Sunwolves.
The Stormers will most likely use their set piece to repeat their dominance over the Sunwolves in Cape Town, despite not having Eben Etzebeth, who is in fine form. He will be taking an extra week off to meet the Bulls in Pretoria next week.
Against the giant youngsters Pieter-Steph du Toit, JD Schickerling the Sunwolves field two New Zealand north islanders in Tim Bond and Fa’atiga Lemalu.
Nizaam Carr moves to the back of the scrum, who will aim to run around Ed Quirk, the former Reds backrower. Carr is joined by 6-foot-6, 115kg Rynhardt Elstadt and 100kg Sia Kolisi.
Quirk is complimented by American Andrew Durutalo and former Blues player Liaki Moli, who often plays lock, to complete the all-international Sunwolves back five.
The inside centre battle will be between Sunwolves captain Harumichi Tatekawa and Damian de Allende. The Springbok will aim to use this game to regain his thundering form.
The 33-year-old Sunwolves Tusi Pisi will face off against 22-year-old Jean-Luc du Plessis, who scored half of the Stormers’ points against the Waratahs in their last match.
He will look to score twice that in this game, and consolidate their position in the top of the African conference.
In the end, it should be a win by the Stormers – by a lot.
