Who will fill the vacant Everton job?

By Conner Lowe / Roar Rookie

After a poor 15-16 Premier League season, Roberto Martinez was sacked after leading Everton to an 11th-placed finish.

The Everton Board believed that this result was not good enough and decided to sack the Spanish manager.

So with the season over for another year, Everton have a massive task in hiring someone to bring them back to the top where they were with David Moyes, finishing between fifth and eighth each year and allowing qualification for the Europa League.

But who will step up to the task?

Many managers have being linked with a move to Goodison Park. The favourite to take out the managerial job is Moyes who managed the club from 2002-2013. This move surely gets the Everton fans smiling, remembering back to the days of qualifying for multiple Europa Leagues and reaching a FA Cup in 2009.

Being out of a job since being sacked from the Real Sociedad in 2015, David Moyes must be eager to get his managerial career back on track with a move back to Everton.

Another rumour is Jose Mourinho. Although it has seemed likely that he will be Manchester United’s manager next season, nothing has been finalised.

The likes of the Portuguese manager joining a team like Everton seem’s highly unlikely as Luis Van Gaal has failed to make the top four with United and it looks certain that he will not remain manager next year.

But many believe that for the “special one” to prove that he is really special instead of moving to a team of the likes of Manchester United, he needs to prove himself with a ‘mid-table’ team and excel them into title challengers.

Another rumoured move is Brendan Rodgers, but most can’t see this happening as he managed Everton’s rivals Liverpool for three years (2012-2015).

This signing though could be good for Everton as Rodgers knows what its like to manage a ‘mid-table’ team with the likes of Swansea and Liverpool. So with his experience Rodgers could get Everton back into the top ten in the league.

Who do you think is likely to fill the vacant manager role? and how do you think Everton can go next season if the right manager is signed?

Thank you QConners for your comment. I believe Everton will need a manager with that winning mentality, but also I believe they need a manager with experience that has managed in the Premier League before. Manuel Pellengrini could be a great choice for the managerial role, as he has won trophies in England. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

If I were Everton, I'd be looking at someone from a different league who knows how to win leagues and cups. They need someone who has that winning mentality. Perhaps Frank de Boer from Ajax? Or even Manuel Pellengrini since he'll be needing a job now. Regardless of who it is, it needs to be someone whose had experience in winning trophies, not someone who they think has the potential to.
