Queensland team leaked in newspaper

By News / Wire

North Queensland grand final hero Kyle Feldt has reportedly been overlooked by Maroons selectors, with Dane Gagai taking a wing spot for the State of Origin series opener in Sydney next week.

Gagai’s form has been a shining light in an otherwise wretched season for Newcastle, and his good game for the Knights last week came soon after Feldt made a number of errors against Brisbane last Friday night.

News Corp newspapers have run what they say is the Queensland team for game one, with Feldt’s Cowboys teammate Justin O’Neill taking the place of retired veteran Justin Hodges at right centre.

In-form Brisbane youngster has reportedly secured the other wing spot, pending scans on a heart problem he suffered during last Friday’s game against the Cowboys.

The rest of new coach Kevin Walters’ team contains few surprises.

North Queensland’s Michael Morgan has secured the utility bench spot and Manly’s Nate Myles will start the game ahead of Sam Thaiday.

The team will be officially announced on Tuesday night.

Reported Queensland team: Darius Boyd, Corey Oates, Greg Inglis, Justin O’Neill, Dane Gagai, Johnathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk, Matt Scott, Cameron Smith (c), Nate Myles, Aidan Guerra, Matt Gillett, Corey Parker. Interchange: Michael Morgan, Sam Thaiday, Josh Papalii, Josh McGuire.
