Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 in this year’s FA Cup final.

A thrilling encounter for fans as youngster Jesse Lingard smashed it into the back of the net in the 110th minute of extra-time, securing victory for the Red Devils.

Louis van Gaal’s first silverware as manager of United was secured with the win, however he is far from safe. There are thousands of reports that essentially all say the same thing.

He has already said his goodbyes. Apparently, his employment at the club was already decided previous to the FA Cup final. It is alleged that Portuguese mastermind Jose Mourinho is at the ready to run the show at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to a BBC Sport journalist, Van Gaal said “it’s over” when a reporter approached him as he left the team hotel on Sunday. It’s also been reported that Van Gaal told some staff that he did not know if he would see them again, following this momentous victory that equals the Gunners’ record 12th FA Cup title.

Ex-Chelsea manager Mourinho is apparently preparing to hold talks with the Manchester United board and senior bosses this week, with his agent Jorge Mendes due back from a business trip to Shanghai.

The manager has a great success record and who knows, maybe that’s what United need. A manager of such quality since the late departed Sir Alex Ferguson, whom, let’s be honest, is difficult to replace.

So it looks like all we’re waiting on is the official announcement of resignation or sacking of the Dutchman as we wait the arrival of Mourinho at Old Trafford.
