French number one Jo-Wilfried Tsonga faces a potentially tricky second round French Open match-up against the inconsistent but talented Marcos Baghdatis. Join The Roar for live scores from 10:30pm AEST.

Despite owning a perfect six to nil winning record over Baghdatis, Tsonga has faced some tough moments against the former Australian Open finalist and will need to be on form again to ease into the third round.

On his day, Baghdatis is capable of producing any shot in the book. When he finds his rhythm and develops confidence, the Cypriot is arguably one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the men’s draw.

For all his talent, however, Baghdatis has constantly struggled with his mental strength in matches. Too often he is prone to falling away when things don’t go as planned. He is very similar to Fabio Fognini – a player whose terrific talent is offset by his lack of discipline and concentration on the court at key moments.

With that said, Baghdatis should be switched on today on centre court against Tsonga. The pressure will be on the French star to perform at his home slam, and Baghdatis could easily apply some big pressure by securing the first set.

Tsonga, though, has performed consistently well at the French Open in previous seasons, making the semifinals over the past few years. He remains one of the most consistent players on the ATP tour and certainly possesses the talent and aggression required to once again go deep in his home slam.

Prediction
In short, Baghdatis should be good enough to secure a set against Tsonga, but the Frenchman at his best should still secure passage to the third round.
