It will be a battle of two of the most the experienced players on the tour when Pablo Cuevas takes on Tomas Berdych in the third round of the French Open. Join The Roar for live scores from around 10:30pm (AEST).

Cuevas, who came into the second grand slam of the year with the 27th seed has had to battle hard through the first two rounds. While he has only lost a single set throughout the matches, he has been in three tie-breakers and just looked a little off his game.

In the first round he came up against Tobias Kamke and after losing the first set, looking shaky at best he managed to rebound, winning the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6. He was a little more convincing against Quentin Halys, 7-6, 6-3, 7-6.

The tie-breakers show he has been good when the pressure is turned up – something that is going to be incredibly important against Berdych – but at the same time, his play hasn’t been good enough to win it before tie-breakers.

Berdych, like Cuevas has won all but one set of his first two matches and for the most part has been dominant. The one set that he was off looked more like a break in concentration than his form being down or anything else.

In the first round he would defeat Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, seemingly getting more and more dominant with every passing set. Against Malek Jaziri, who is a step up he would take the first set 6-1 before dropping the second 6-2. His bounce back would be swift though, winning the final two sets 6-2, 6-4.

Neither player’s lead-up form was fantastic, but Berdych defeating the likes of David Ferrer shows he has been in some very solid form.

Intriguingly, both players have a 66 per cent winning rate on the clay court and there doesn’t seem to be much to split them coming into this match.

The pair have faced off once before, last year in Beijing on the hard court at the China Open. Cuevas won that meeting in straight sets and never really looked that challenged. With the experience level of both players don’t expect that to factor in this match much.

Prediction
There is nearly nothing to split the pair, but Berdych is an absolute fighter and he has had some high-profile scalps during the lead-up.

Berdych in five sets.
