Goffin, the 12th seed, had a relatively easy run through the first two rounds, winning both in straight sets.

In Round 3 however, he had his hands full with Spaniard Nicolas Almagro. In a back-and-forth battle, Goffin was able to get through in a thrilling five-set battle 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Gulbis, on the other hand, has yet to drop a set through his first three rounds.

While trailing 5-2 in his third-round encounter with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the enigmatic Frenchman was forced to retire due to injury.

Gulbis has therefore only played seven sets compared to Goffin’s 11. That differential means a lot to the legs, and could play a big factor in deciding the winner of this match.

Both matches these two players have played against each other have gone the distance, Gulbis winning the first encounter in a tiebreaker third set, Goffin winning the second encounter 7-5 in the third set.

This one looms as a heavyweight battle.

Prediction
Fresher legs and a penchant for taking down seeded players will see Gulbis get the job done and march on to the Quarter Finals.

Gulbis in four sets (6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4)
