The world’s best tennis player Novak Djokovic continues his quest for a first French Open crown when he does battle with the experienced Tomas Berdych. Join The Roar for live scores from 9pm (AEST).

After strong lead up form where the world No.1 took out the crown in Madrid and only fell at the final hurdle in Rome to Andy Murray he has only lost one set during the first four rounds of the French Open – which is of course one more set than he would have liked to lose.

After taking the first three rounds in straight sets, he actually had to fight back from a set down against Roberto Bautista Agut, and struggled to find his momentum and rhythm, almost being forced to a fifth set.

Berdych on the other hand has also had a fairly straightforward run through – and against what can only be described as tougher opponents than the world No.1 has faced. His fourth round match was against David Ferrer, and a straight sets win there proved his form, confidence and ability to match it with the top players in the world.

The pair have met on 25 previous occasions, with Djokovic claiming 23 of them. Their first match came way back in 2008, and Berdych hasn’t beat the Djoker since 2013 – or in their last ten matches.

Their last meeting on clay came in the 2015 Monte Carlo finals as Djokovic won in three sets. They have played a total of three matches on the red dust, with Berdych picking up one of them.

In terms of grand slam history they have played four matches – never at Roland Garros – with Djokovic taking all of them in straight sets.

The winner will face either Dominic Thiem or David Goffin in the semi-finals.

Prediction
Berdych will take Djokovic all the way – his experience, determination and ability on clay will ensure that. You also have to consider that Djokovic has crashed and burned at Roland Garros before – regardless, he will get the job done one way or another.

Djokovic in five sets.
