Match preview:

For the first time in four years the Melbourne Demons will travel to Sydney to take on the Sydney Swans, and will be chasing their first win at the SCG in a decade. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 1:10pm AEST.

The Swans are currently sitting third on the ladder but will be looking to bounce back after the loss to the Giants last weekend, while the Demons – who are currently sitting tenth – will be looking to continue on the winning form after a win over the Magpies in the Queen’s Birthday match.

Depending on results over the weekend the win could see the Swans take top spot on the ladder going into their bye week.

Recent matches between these two have not been favourable to the Demons with the Swans winning the past four and a surprise draw between the sides before that. The Demons will hope to stop the losing streak and finally get the SCG hoodoo off their back.

The Swans will be without their ruck and other tall forward Kurt Tippett who is out with a hamstring, while the Demons will be coming into the game without any forced changes.

The injury to Tippett will add more pressure to Lance Franklin in the forward line as well Callum Sinclair who will have a big job on Melbourne’s Max Gawn.

Callum Sinclair will probably have the hardest role for the Swans against the in-form Gawn, he had a career day against the Pies on Monday with 27 possessions to go along with 31 hit-outs and three goals, the Swans will hope Sinclair can nullify him and help propel them to the win.

With the game looking to be a wet and sloppy affair the contested ball will be key to both teams, these sides are first (Sydney) and fourth (Melbourne) in the AFL in that stat it will be interesting to see who gets out on top in that category as it could go a long way to deciding the winner of the game.

Prediction
Despite the loss of Tippett, the Swans should be able to ride their home ground advantage and the extra day’s break to get the win, and continue the Dees’ SCG hoodoo for another year longer.

Will the Demons be able to break the hoodoo, or will the Swans strengthen their claim as a flag contender?

Full time. Sydney Swans 12.14.86 Melbourne 4.7.31 MATCH REPORT The Sydney Swans have overcome a spirited Melbourne side to post a big 55 point win in wet and miserable conditions. The Demons started strongly scoring the first goal of the game and controlling early in the 1st but the Swans eventually settled and took control late in that opening quarter. The second quarter started well for the Swans but the Demons again showed good signs however they lacked the ability to score. The Swans took a 19 point lead into the halftime break in a low scoring half. The third was dominated more by the swans but the Demons were good in stretches however again were unable to capitalise on the scoreboard. The weather was making it difficult for both teams and the low scores showed that. The fourth started with a flood of goals from the Swans with Ben McGlynn kicking back to back goals early on. With the win the Swans move to second on the ladder while Melbourne drop to 10th on percentage behind the Power. Max Gawn lead the Hit outs with 58 for the game but just couldn’t get the help on the ground level to make it effective for the Demons. Both sides have a bye next week. Leading Goal scorers. Sydney Lance Franklin 4 Melbourne Christian Petracca, Jesse Hogan 2 Leading Disposals Sydney Dan Hannebery and Josh Kennedy 28 Melbourne Bernie Vince 28. Max Gawn lead the Hit outs with 58 for the game but just couldn’t get the help on the ground level to make it effective.

End of the third quarter. Swans have complete control of this game with a 25 point lead. The Demons have been trying all game but have not been able to get the scores on the board to keep them in it. Big 4th quarter coming up, Will take a big effort for the Demons to over come this deficit with the weather and the far more polished Swans side.
