Eight out of the top ten players will need to finish their Round 3 before commencing the final round on the last day of the US Open. Join The Roar for live updates from the final day of the US Open.
Only Jason Day (+1) and Brandan Grace (-1) have finished their Round 3 meaning they will know the exact picture before starting their respective rounds on Sunday.
Current leader Shane Lowry (-5) is ahead of the pack by two strokes but still has to play four more holes early in the morning and then return in the afternoon.
Lowry will be joined in the morning by Andrew Lawry (-3), Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia , Dustin Johnson all on (-2) and Scott Piercy (E).
The fact that each of the players have to play at a time when the course has been the most difficult in the last three days means by the time the final round commences the competition will be even more intense.
The contenders
A lot will be depending on how the eight players finish their respective rounds before teeing off in the afternoon. It is worth noting that out of the top eight players on the leader board nobody has won an major championship.
Out of the contenders Dustin Johnson has stuck the ball as purely as anyone just has not been able to sink those clutch putts. With last year’s US Open final hole three putt still instilled back of his mind, Johnson will need to show great character and beat his mind rather than his opposition if he is to win.
Andrew Landry, playing his first US Open, is only two shots from the lead but one senses the lack of inexperience might be against him on Sunday. It will be monumental achievement if the young man can withstand all the challenges.
Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood are the ‘Mister Nice Guys’ and the whole world in a way wants one of them to win a major. Garcia has been in fine form over the last three days and if he can avoid continue his majestic touches around the greens he is a real chance to win his first major.
The Aussies
Jason Day (+1) has had two phenomenal rounds after his disappointing opening round but trailing six shots a lot to catch up on, especially at Oakmont. Day is among the only players in the top ten to win a major and if he gets into red figures he is sure to make the players ahead of him very nervous.
Adam Scott (+2) has an outside chance but lacking of putting skills might mean a top five finish is perhaps the best Scott can hope for.
The smokey
Brandan Grace was leading the US Open last with three holes to play before an erred drive put him behind the pack.
The South African had a great third round (-4) and was starting to putt beautifully on the tough greens at Oakmont.
Trailing the leaders by four shots, don’t be surprised if he right there in the mix at the end of the 18th hole on Sunday.
The leaderboard
Lowry (-5, 14*), Landry (-3, 13*), Westwood (-2, 15*), Garcia, (-2, 14*), Johnson (-2,13*), Grace (-1), Piercy (E, 13*), Day, (+1).
