It was the kind of try you didn’t know who to be most impressed with – the bloke who scored it, or the two fellas who chased him with all their hearts, only to be pipped by a matter of centimetres.

With NSW in Queensland’s half and looking dangerous, Michael Jennings threw a loose ball which Josh Mansour couldn’t get a hold of and the ball ended up in the hands of Queensland winger Dane Gagai.

From there it was a foot race, plain and simple, between Gagai and Blues debutante Tyson Frizell – AKA a noted speedster against a backrower.

You’d say it was only ever going to end one way, and technically you’d be correct, but geez it was a close-run thing.

Frizell made a seriously impressive amount of ground on Gagai, and also hot in pursuit was Blake Ferguson, who crossed over from the opposite wing in a desperate attempt to stop four points.

If the tryline had been just one more metre away, they’d have got him.

But the ground is as big as it is, and despite a last-ditch ankle-tap from Frizzel, and Feguson collecting Gagai around the head as he dived for the line, the Maroons No.5 touched down for the first try of the match.
