After defeating Switzerland in a dramatic penalty shootout in the Round of 16, Poland finally won a Euro finals game after six attempts. They will now be looking to reach the semi-finals against an inconsistent Portugal side.

All the eyes of the Polish fans will be on striker Robert Lewandowski. Despite being hailed as one of the best in Europe, Lewandowski has failed to find the net in his last seven international fixtures.

Despite this, Polish coach Adam Nawalka believes that Lewandowski is in “very good mental and physical shape,” and can provide the goods against Portugal.

Portugal scraped through to the quarter-finals by defeating Croatia 1-nil in extra time, their first win in the competition. Portugal’s first three games ended in 1-all, nil-all and 3-all draws respectively.

Just like all Polish eyes are on Lewandowski, all the Portuguese eyes will be on star man Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid winger has been criticised for his performances as of late, but after finding the net twice against Hungary on gameweek three, Ronaldo proved he still has the ability to score.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos also recognises his side’s inconsistencies, and believes that this game against Poland will be “50-50.”

Both sides have not been on great form as of late, and the strikers from both sides haven’t been providing the goods as often as they need to. The team that finds form first should take the win, however don’t be surprised if it goes all the way down to end.
