Corey Parker is the NRL's greatest forward

By bjvm / Roar Rookie

Corey ‘The Silver Fox’ Parker is the best forward to ever strap on the boots and step onto the field.

In 2001, Parker made his NRL debut with the Brisbane Broncos, scoring his first four-pointer on debut.

As Parker improved over the first few years, he was selected to come off the bench for the Maroons in 2004 and again in 2005.

The leading point scorer for Brisbane in 2006, with a total of 142 points, that same year Parker won his first premiership after a 15-8 win over Melbourne.

Adding to his trophy case in 2009, he won the Paul Morgan Medal for the Broncos Player of the Year.

Parker was named captain of the Prime Minister’s XIII in September 2010, and after missing out on selection in five straight Origin series, he got his well-deserved call up in 2011.

In Round 1 of 2015, Parker joined the 300-games club, which was soured by the 36-6 loss. Also in 2015, Corey became the Broncos’ all-time points scoring leader, passing the future immortal Darren Lockyer.

He is now the most capped forward in NRL history, with his illustrious career set to finish at the end of the 2016 season.

Over his career, Parker has developed one of the best offloads in the game, with teams focused on shutting his crafty passes down as it allows dangerous second-phase plays. He has a steady foot when it comes to kicking conversions, with a kicking percentage of over 70.

With 338 NRL games, 13 Tests for Australia and 18 Origin matches (to be 19 tonight), Corey Parker has become the face of the Brisbane Broncos and a much-loved player for all fans.

His last game will be a sad day for NRL and the fans, as he has given so much to the game.

Parker has had a very respectable career. Straight off the top of my head I'd have Hindmarsh over Parker. Petro as well. Gordon Tallis played in the NRL... he was a pretty fair player.. Sonny Bill, Sam Burgess.. Shane Webcke.. etc. etc.. I'd say on the list of forwards to have played in the NRL he sits above Simon Mannering and below Steve Menzies.

Glenn Lazarus is the best forward of the modern era. So underrated. Won premierships at three different clubs. Was the cornerstone of a period of NSW dominance. All hail the Brick with Eyes.

Nice article Corey. I admire your modesty. But Cam Smith is a better forward, and will break your games record in the next year or two. Sorry mate. Good luck tonight.
