Manchester United vs Manchester City: ICC live scores, blog

The International Champions Cup continues with a marquee match-up as Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United faces off against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 9:30pm (AEST).

City should be expected to field several first team starters against United with Sergio Agüero, David Silva, Denayer, Joe Hart, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi and Nolito all joining the China tour after extended breaks following international competition.

United meanwhile will be keen to bounce back following a very poor defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week. Although it is a pre-season contest, United’s defeat proves that Mourinho will have his hands full trying to build a Red Devil’s outfit that can compete with the very best that Europe has to offer.

As is usually the case when Mourinho and Guardiola go head-to-head, expect a clash of contrasting styles tonight as Mourinho’s conservative tactics clash against Guardiola’s possession tiki-taka football.

It will certainly be interesting to see if City can replicate the possession style of Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona – two teams that Guardiola has reformed in recent seasons.

Another element that could hinder both teams’ ability to play well is the weather, with heavy rain forecast in Beijing. The weather hasn’t been favourable over the past few days and there are reports suggesting that the match may not even go ahead due to the wet conditions.

Overall, this match is difficult to call given that it is just a friendly fixture. One feels that City still possesses the more talented footballers, whereas United remain a work in progress as showcased by their heavy defeat to Dortmund last week.

With the weather certain to play its part however, a draw appears a realistic result between two rivals with plenty to play for when the Premier League kicks off next month.

City and United to draw 2-2

Sorry guys, internet issues but I am back on. As you may have already heard, the match between City and United has been cancelled due to bad weather in Beijing. Hopefully City's next match against Dortmund goes ahead in a few days time. United now head home I believe and will prepare for the Premier League. Unfortunate circumstances but stay tuned for more action in the ICC over the next few nights right here on The Roar.
