Karl-Anthony Towns stunning rookie season

By Justin Ahrns / Roar Pro

What Karl-Anthony Towns was able to do in his first season was nothing short of amazing.

Aside from being voted the unanimous rookie of the year, Towns averaged roughly 18 points, ten rebounds and two blocks in 32 minutes, without missing a single game.

The Dominican-American exceeded expectations, maintaining his high level of play throughout his entire 82-game season, instead of having a Kristaps Porzingis-like slump.

He was taken first overall in the 2015 NBA draft over D’Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Karl-Anthony possesses a very good mid-to-outside jump shot, with the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim if the defence overreacts.

Defensively, he served as an anchor for a young, inexperienced Minnesota team, speaking volumes to his basketball IQ.

He average 1.7 blocks per game, and had a defensive win shares rating of 2.8. Towns’ knowledge of the game is tremendous, averaging as many assists as turnovers, and assisting on over 11 per cent of Minnesota’s field goals when he was on the floor. This is outstanding for a first-year centre.

His decision making can rarely be questioned, especially considering the talent around him was not elite last season.

He has also demonstrated the early qualities of a leader, in his positive attitude and hard working mentality.

In an improving system, with Kevin Garnett as a mentor, Towns has the ability to become one of the great players in his generation.

Haha glad you are enjoying my articles! I see the Wolves as being on the verge of a dynasty, although we know that nothing is certain in sport. I highly rate their signing of Thibs, and their young core gel well together in my opinion. I say top 6 is a good result for them. They certainly have the talent to make top 4 in the west, but history shows that young, inexperienced teams typically do not make the playoffs. Should be esciting!

This year? Maybe in a few years....but this year have to have: Warriors, Spurs, Clippers, Memphis (Healthy this year), Portland & Utah ahead of them. They have some very interesting young talent, but not the depth to challenge the more veteran playoff teams. Probably likely to miss the playoffs, but could make a run at the 7/8 seed. I would still have Dallas more likely to make the playoffs just based on veteran experience & Rick Carlisle.

Wow - you certainly are pumping out the articles - good work - I'm suffering NBA withdrawal symptons so you're keeping me sane. KAT rookie season was one of the best in recent times. T-Wolves have a very bright future although unless Rubio gets healthy and raises his shooting form they have an issue that needs to be dealt with at PG. I've gone out on a limb and stated the T-Wolves will nudge Top 4 in the West with Tibs at the helm.
