Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy tallied 45 disposals and three goals in the 21.11 (137) to 7.5 (47) victory, with the result keeping Sydney in the hunt to finish second.

The Swans take on Port Adelaide, St Kilda, North Melbourne, and Richmond in the final four rounds, giving them an excellent chance to edge out the likes of GWS and Geelong for second spot.

Fremantle remain mired in 16th place with just three wins to show from 18 games.

Defender Zac Dawson is facing several weeks on the sidelines after dishing out a heavy hip-and-shoulder to the face of Sydney’s Jake Lloyd, who lay prone of the ground for more than a minute before recovering to walk to the bench.

Sydney’s win was their biggest ever against Fremantle, eclipsing the 77-point margin they posted in round 13, 2002 at the SCG.

Pavlich was cheered by the 32,401 crowd every time he touched the ball, with the 34-year-old finishing with 15 disposals and two late goals in a hard-working effort.

After the game, David Mundy and Chris Mayne chaired Pavlich off through a guard of honour formed by Fremantle and Sydney players.

But the 34-year-old’s milestone will forever be remembered as a dark day for the club, with the Dockers going from minor premiers to easybeats within the space of a year.

Scoring chances were few and far between for Fremantle in the first half, but Pavlich was in the thick of the action for most of them.

Pavlich sharked the ball off the back of a pack and handballed to Matt Taberner for Fremantle’s only goal of the first quarter.

And Pavlich produced a bizarre highlight early in the second quarter when he balanced the ball on the back of his head while in congestion before feeding it out for a Mundy goal.

Sydney led by 29 points after a wet and windy first half.

That was just the entree.

The third quarter became a feast for the Swans as the rain finally made way for sunshine, with Tom Mitchell booting three of Sydney’s eight goals for the term as the game turned into a romp.

Why? That's a midfielder dependant stat. Getting the ball down is Clarke's job. Are you surprised that Kennedy might beat De Boer to the ball? Now explain Clarke's superiority with marks (twice Naismith's) and Clarke trouncing of Naismith with possessions.

Don - it might be worth looking at the hit outs to advantage stats?

How many disposals per game has Pearce averaged this year?

Really annoying to see a kid who played for East Freo in Alir play so well....he is the perfect player to replace Michael Johnson. Great composure and reading of the play. That said Freo took Alex Pearce instead of Aliir, and I would rate Pearce a bit better than Aliir at the moment. Can't get them all

Interesting analysis about the Pies given that Scharenberg has not been able to get on the park, Dane Swan is out for the season, you lost those two idiots to a drugs ban, Elliott and Langdon are both missing. I picked the Pies to miss the finals at the start of the season, but agree that the coaching staff at the Pies needs a major overhaul

I was at the game, and Sydney were amazing. Freo (after half time particularly) were just terrible to watch, but that shouldn't take away from how great Sydney were. The third quarter was like watching a clinic - amazing. I didn't expect to win, but I would have liked to see Freo put up a bit more of an effort - especially from the guys who are in danger of losing their spots next year - although maybe that's why they weren't as motivated? All in all, super disappointing game, especially for Pav's 350th, but props to the crowd for showing how much he's loved. Also, I knew how big Buddy Franklin was, but I didn't *know* - dude is like a human lighthouse, the fact that Silvagni managed to defend on him at all is pretty impressive!

No lack of effort at all...as clearly explained by Michael Huston, below. Injuries are real things. Those 10 players would make a difference.

Don I'm fully aware of Freo's injury list, but it doesn't excuse the lack of effort in what they're dishing up. Especially on a day where Pav has a significant milestone. Essendon has more spirit and they're playing with a pub team! Freo started the year with a good list and lost, didn't appear to be any 2 way running or options out of the centre. Sydney are one of the best teams in the comp and on fire but so was Freo last year. Baffling and a lot of work pre season for players and coaching staff.

It was good to see Sydney pretty much keep their foot on the pedal and mind on the job yesterday. Some highlights included Naismith's mark and goals by a number of our players. Our young ones are playing well and relishing their roles. Rampe is playing like a seasoned defender and Mills and Heeney among others are great. Alir has certainly come on this year. I could go on and on. But enjoying the win. Finals still could come down to who ends up on the best run with injuries.

Do you really think Naismith outplayed Clarke? Clarke beat Naismith and Nankervis combined for hit outs and marks.

On the contrary .......Freo, Collingwood and Gold Coast have poor lists which are compounded and exacerbated by very average coaches. As a Collingwood supporter I can categorically tell you that injuries are not the main variable of the club's woes - but rather, sheer incompetence from the back room staff - with Buckley leading the way .

It was a terrible effort, a tanking effort. You'd think they'd have put on a better show to honour one of the game's greats. It's not a talentless list, and draft picks won't help if that's all they're going to dish up. Following on from the Suns and Demons (I'm still trying to unsee that match), a very bleak Sunday arvo of footy.

If Swans finish 2nd I can't see how any team can beat them. They will be marching straight into the grand final with the week off. Would love to knock out Hawks in a PF in Sydney! I still think we will play Cats in the Grand Final.

In all fairness to Fremantle, they weren't that bad. 90 tackles (not to mention the amount of times they caught us napping with the ball) is indicative of where their effort level was. They just came up against a team that had a lot going right for them. I've been saying it for a long time. Sydney are probably the greatest underperformers in AFL/VFL history. Never have I seen a team so regularly dominate play but manage to make things hard for themselves. We miss targets, we drop marks, we spray shots at goal. It's frustrating because our dominance in games is rarely, if ever, reflected on the scoreboard. This particular game was the moment I've been waiting for for bloody ages. Guys like Rohan, Heeney, Parker, Naismith, Cunningham and Hannebery were clunking them from everywhere. Mitchell and Kennedy were just snapping around their body and they would result in goals. Heeney would just unload from 50m and it would sail through. And our half back line - McVeigh, Aliir and Mills mainly - were hitting targets perfectly around the field. It was just the perfect combination that we seem to be the only ones who struggle to achieve on a weekly basis. That is the benchmark for us. Unfortunately, there's not much use emphasizing that point because we will almost certainly descend back into chaos football for the rest of the season. Our kids this year have been simply outstanding. Callum Mills, Aliir Aliir, Sam Naismith, Tom Papley, George Hewett... it can be easy to forget just how inexperienced they all are. Then there is Xavier Richards, Harrison Marsh, Jordan Foote, Toby Nankervis, James Rose who are all certain to play roles next year and beyond. Meanwhile, they are forcing experienced blokes like Laidler, McGlynn and Richards to the reserves. I look at Freo this year and it seems Ross Lyon will roll the dice with the kids, but then in some kind of exodus will drop them to bring in senior experienced players. The result is neither the youngsters or the mature guys can really build any form and again, as I've said a few times, I think it has to do with development. In this case, it's not entirely Lyon's fault. I think Horse is easily the second-best coach of this era behind Clarkson, but I'm not naive. I know it's taken an army to develop kids like Aliir, Mills, Heeney, Papley, Naismith, Hewett etc into ready-made senior players. But this game was alarming because of the fact that Fremantle actually had more experience on the field than Sydney. Why were guys like Aliir, Naismith, Heeney and Mills amongst our best, and why did they look so much better than Freo's youngsters? It's all good and well to rebuild and say "OK we've got the kids getting game-time, now we wait" but are they actually getting anywhere? I rate Blakeley, Weller and Collins very highly. But that is it. This game was actually strange for me as a Swans supporter because I felt bad. It's clear that the issues of this club stretch beyond the field. I know guys like Taberner was playing on Grundy at times (who should be AA now), but shouldn't Taberner be at the stage where he's starting to trouble the best in the comp? Shouldn't Tucker and Langdon be doing a little more to cement their spot in the best 22? I just would love to be a fly on the wall during a coaches meeting at Fremantle just to know what's going on. I believe it's more than just Ross Lyon. (This isn't meant as a critique I genuinely just think it's worth exploring the possibility that this club's current standards is from more than just one coach and an injury list.)

Langdon kicked the ball really well. Great pace and one classic pass. Weller, great competitor and excellent skills. Apeness 5 goals in his first game back at Peel and Morabito 3 goals in one quarter when moved forward in the last quarter. Blakely best on field. In today's game, Silvagni totally neutralized Buddy in his first game back. Clarke monstered Naismith and Nankervis. Collins unbeaten in defence again. Young Lachie Neale was magic. Tucker was smooth and tough. You might like to have another look at the personnel on Freo's injury list. Nothing to worry about. Just get them fit and playing again. Collingwood, Gold Coast and, now, Bullies are all struggling because of bulk injury. Norhing to do with desire, passion, effort or coaching...just too many unavailable.

Fine display by Sydney who are a very good side with a pivotal part in Tippett to come in It was really disappointing seeing the Freo players failing to rise to even show a yelp in honour a true Legend in the game in Matthew Pavlich for his 350th game. Maybe they were deliberately tanking to ensure the best pick at the draft but on watching that display there is little to enthuse about Freo's futures. With most of their 'younger' players showing little to hand your hat on. Langdon a case in point, gets the ball well but butchers it when he does.
