Titans' premiership odds slashed after announcement of Jarryd Hayne signing

By The Roar / Editor

Jarryd Hayne has announced he will sign with the Gold Coast Titans for two years, but in better news for the club he will be allowed to play through the remainder of the 2016 season, and according to the TAB their odds have been slashed immediately.

At the close of business yesterday, the Titans were a massive $67 to win the premiership, but this morning after the bombshell dropped on the NRL, they are into just $17.

That’s quite a drop…

This could continue to fall over the coming days, and given how the Eels are playing it is hardly a surprise. They sit on the edge of the top eight, and an x-factor player like Hayne could be the spark that they need to win a premiership either this year, or indeed in the future.

The impact of Hayne on the Titans should be immediate, with the press conference, conducted by Graham Annesely, Neil Henry and Hayne himself suggesting he could play this weekend against the New Zealand Warriors.

Whether Hayne has the form that he held before leaving the NRL in 2014 remains to be seen, but punters have voted instantly.

In other news, the signing of Hayne for next year has brought the Titans into just $10 for the premiership while Hayne is $15 to win the 2017 Dally M Medal.

That’s quite a big shift for a bloke who hasn’t played in 18 months.

Honestly that was Cronulla's worst performance of the season. They looked totally disinterested in getting into the physical stuff until they fell behind. Then they aimed up a bit for the final fifteen minutes and should have won the game really. Titans looked pretty ordinary for the last 20 mins and extra time. Sharks could have been beaten by anybody on that effort. Raiders will beat them if they don't pick it up.

Let the money flow to the Titans. The odds I will get for the Storm will be delicious.

I am one of the few who are really skeptical about Jarryd Hayne and how he is going to perform. The bloke was a champion player in 2014 no doubt.. but he has been away from the game for a couple of years and while he is on the big bucks I think he is going to struggle for the remainder of the season. Fitness wise I'm not to sure where he is at, I know sevens is a 14 minute game, not an 80 minute one and he needs to run some serious miles in NRL. I also have a feeling he is going to get hammered and put under a lot of pressure. If I was an opposition coach I would be telling my halfback to kick jarryd hayne to death, make him run all day, wear him out. Then when he is fatigued in the second half bomb torpedoes to him. Oh, and judging by the bookies, they stand to make a lot of money off all the shortened odds and people betting on the hype. Don't be fooled!

Good old betting agencies, that's highway robbery. 1. Titans will still not win the premiership. 2. Titans are probably going to make the 8 anyway. 3. Titans are still no chance of top 4. I wonder how many suckers will go in a place a bet? Judging by the deluded on this website, I'd say a few.
