Track cycling Day 6: Women's sprint, omnium, men's keirin Rio Olympics live blog

By Scott Pryde / Expert

The final day at the velodrome for track cycling at the Rio 2016 Olympics will see three more gold medals up for grabs with Great Britain expected to clean up once again. Join The Roar for live coverage and updates from 5am (AEST).

Heading into the final day on the track, Great Britain have dominated proceedings so far winning four of a possible six gold medals so far and another three silvers.

They are expected to complete what will be a domination of the track cycling programme at Rio today, potentially taking gold in all three events that are being decided.

While there are still morning qualifications to come, they hold the prime spot for more medals and barring a major surprise will go into the evening finals as favourite in two of three events.

The Women’s Omnium has already had the scratch race, individual pursuit and elimination race while the time trial will be completed during the morning session, after the time of writing.

After those three events Laura Trott is absolutely dominating having won the individual pursuit and elimination race, while finishing second to Tatsiana Sharakova in the scratch. It leaves her at the top of the standings by a margin of eight points ahead of Jolien D’Hoore of Belgium who has finished one spot behind her in each event.

The flying lap and points race are not necessarily her biggest strengths and so she may need the lead, but she will still finish consistently at the top end of the field.

The Women’s sprint still has the quarter-finals to come, but Rebecca James qualified with the fastest time in an Olympic Record pace. While Zhong Tianshi of China is the world champion she has to face James, and Kristina Vogel of Germany has also displayed some good form overcoming James will be a different challenge all together.

The Men’s Keirin is hard to get a form read on given the Round 1 heats are in the morning session but World Champion Joachim Eilers will once again go in as favourite.

Jason Kenny has demonstrated he is in excellent form while Matthew Glaetzer also has to be in the medal discussion. New Zealand duo Sam Walker and Edward Dawkins will also be disappointed with their Games so far and want to make amends here.

Prediction
James is on fire in the sprints and won’t be beaten, and given the lead for Trott already she won’t be losing the omnium.

The Keirin is always a tough event and tough to predict but Kenny looks strong. In saying that he won’t be favourite with German Joachim Eilers riding strongly so far and being the world champion in the discipline – he should break the stranglehold of Britain.

Think it would be fair to say Great Britain have absolutely dominated and Australia had a very disappointing campaign on the track.

Through 4 laps to go and the pace picking up with gaps opening. Eilers at the back letting a little gap opening this time before he starts to make his move with 3 laps to go. Kenny to the outside as well and this time are away cleanly! Eilers hits the front with 2 to go, Zileinski over the top and Kenny in third. Zielinski takes the bell, Eilers over the top and Kenny now around the outside of them. Awang into the slipstream and no one will beat Kenny! Buchli with a great finish to take second and Awang with the bronze. Kenny has another gold medal, Britain with another!

Right, away we go again. Awang into the front, Zapta second, Kenny third, Buchli in fourth, Zileinski in fifth and Eilers last. Could have just copied and pasted from last time.

Yep so Eilers amongst the riders lining up for another restart. I think if anyone goes again there will be a DQ.

The officials are having a conference with the managers and the chief commissaire looks less than impressed. Think we are going to have another 6 man restart here.

No, does seem to be going for longer doesn't it? I have never seen a race stopped twice for riders overtaking it either.

Never seen the Derny bike stay on for so long in the Keirin.

Surely Eilers is going to be in some trouble this time. Again we wait for the judges.

3 laps to go and Eilers starting to move up from the back. He has moved way too early, the gun has gone again and Eilers will be in all sorts of trouble here. He went up around the back of the track and he is in a lot of trouble here. Zielinski as well might be in some trouble.

Away we go again! Awang trying to get up the front but he is pushed back to second. Zapta in first, Kenny third, Buchli fourth, Zielinski fifth and Eilers at the back.

Both Awang and Kenny still look calm but there was a big cheer that went up from the British contingent in the grandstand so we are having a full restart here.

Kenny looks pretty relaxed, so does Awang and I think they are both able to continue. Looks like we have a full restart of the race.

Kenny and Awang still rolling around on the bottom of the track. The referees haven't made a decision yet, but Kenny and Awang both crossed the back of the motorbike before it was off the track - if they apply the rules they are both out.

The guys at the back looked to push forward early, and it made Kenny and Awang jump to avoid getting swamped. Still waiting on a decision here.

Awang on the front and the pace starting to heat up with three laps to go. Kenny the man to make a move with Eilers coming around the outside. There has been a gun and I think they have jumped the bike here. There was a massive rush here and I think Awang and Kenny could be in some trouble here. Waiting for the judges decision.
