Olympics: Athletics Day 6 results - women's 200m final live updates, blog

By Jarrod McGrouther / Roar Guru

The men’s decathlon continues this morning, with this enthralling event seeing the athletes compete in the high jump and 400m during this session. Join The Roar for a live blog from 6:45am (AEST).

By the time the high jump begins, the 100m, long jump and shot put will have eventuated, meaning these middle events will be of huge importance.

Keep an eye on Aussie hopeful Cedric Dubler, our first decathlete since 2000.

The flying sticks are back, with the men this time taking to the Javelin. The Germans are the in-form athletes in the event, with the mark of 90+ metres attainable at these games.

Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin and Yohan Blake are also in action this morning, competing in the 200m semi-finals. Blake qualified third fastest but it is Bolt who is expected to cruise through to the final. The triple-triple is on the line!

The women are fighting for medals during today’s session. The 200m and 100m hurdle titles are on the line, with Dafne Schippers qualifying fastest in the 200m semi-finals, clocking an impressive 21.96 seconds. All qualifiers finished within just over half a second of each other so this race could go to anyone.

The women’s 100m hurdles semi and final also feature today. Unfortunately, no Australians are in the field, with Michelle Jenneke finishing a disappointing 37th. The Americans dominated the heats so expect medals for the USA here.

The women’s long jump final is also on, with 12 competitors qualifying for the medal round. We have one Aussie in action, with Brooke Stratton qualifying with a leap of 6.56m, 31 centimetres short of the best jump, that or Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic. Her PB is good enough to medal, so good luck Brooke.

mens javelin unfortunately for the aussies, the top 12 have been decided, and we won't feature. Joshua Robinson (AUS) finished an agonising 13th, with Hamish Peacock (AUS) 25th The Germans are red hot, but look out for Keshorn Walcott (TTO) who threw 88.68m to top the lot

Blake was always going to struggle in his form. I think Merritt was a bigger threat than Gatlin anyway, but Gatlin failing to make it is still huge news.

Mens 200m semi #2 results Usain Bolt (JAM) - 1st, easily. Last 60 or 70 he just cruised along, chatting with Andre. Looks incredibly good Andre De Grasse (CAN) 2nd - easily, wanted Bolt and went hard the whole way, impressive run nontheless.
