Match preview:

The Gold Coast Suns are looking to bounce back from their shock loss against the bottom-placed Bombers when they tackle the Collingwood Magpies at Etihad Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:25pm (AEST).

Last week’s loss added to what has already been year to forget for the injury-ravaged Suns.

Coach Rodney Eade would have been particularly displeased with the fact his charges were beaten by a more committed Essendon team, not to mention the fact that the Suns look disorganised, especially up forward, where they failed to capitalise on their 69-44 advantage in inside 50s.

Poor disposal and slow movement gave the Dons time to put extra players in defence and limit the space for the three tall Gold Coast forwards to operate in.

Peter Wright, Tom Lynch and Sam Day were continually battling with two or three defenders every time they tried to mark the ball.

The Pies will deploy similar tactics, and will look to their tall defenders to keep the dangerous Suns forwards at bay.

Last week, against the Bulldogs, Collingwood just fell short in a high-quality game that saw the lead change hands several times. The Pies were led well by Adam Treloar, captain Scott Pendlebury and the improving James Aish in the midfield.

Aish, who commenced the season slowly, has started to hit his straps and finished with 28 possessions including seven inside 50s.

Darcy Moore was once again dangerous up forward, and could have picked up five or six goals if he had kicked straight. Moore will find it tough against Suns key defender Steven May, who has had a good season.

This game could be decided in the ruck, where Pies ruckman Brodie Grundy is coming off a 47 hit-out performance against the Bulldogs.

Grundy threatens to dominate in this game, as Gold Coast lack a quality ruckman. Keegan Brooksby tries his best, but seems too raw to compete against the competition’s best.

Prediction
If Grundy dominates, the Pies talented midfield should set up a win for captain Scott Pendlebury’s 200th game.

Pies by 25 points.
