Fight preview:

Nate Diaz is looking to repeat his incredible UFC 196 performance when he takes on the company’s biggest star, featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Join The Roar from 12 midday (AEST) for live round-by-round action.

When Diaz was called up to take on McGregor ten days prior to UFC 196, he took the fight without hesitation.

Despite it being a contest that the fans wanted, Diaz was a heavy underdog and was only given a puncher’s chance.

Then, come fight day, Diaz weathered McGregor’s early storm, before dominating in the second round and hurting the featherweight champion, submitting him with the rear-naked choke.

McGregor, who was originally scheduled to face former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, decided to take the jump to welterweight, and despite his risk not paying off the first time, he’s doing it again.

The Irishman has changed his approach for Diaz, who is a much bigger, stronger fighter than what he was at 145 pounds, but he believes that this time around the fight will go much differently.

It’s do-or-die time for McGregor, after UFC president Dana White said that win, lose or draw, McGregor will have to defend his belt after this bout, or give it up completely.

The stakes of the bout have become even higher after the pre-fight press conference, where Diaz walked off stage and both participants started throwing bottles and cans at one another before White was forced to end the event.

Prediction
This has become a really hard fight to call. McGregor was winning the first bout, before he gassed out and got dominated on the ground.

Diaz has much better grappling and if the fight goes to the ground, McGregor is in big trouble.

Both men have incredible boxing, but McGregor has the stand-up advantage because of his superior kicking technique.

If it goes to the ground, Diaz should be able to get the finish. However, if McGregor can survive the takedowns, and keep the fight standing, he can get the job done.

Conor McGregor to win via TKO in Round 4.

I thought McGregor won. His dominance in the first two rounds meant Diaz had to win the next three, which I don't think he did. A fair decision.
