Wallabies vs All Blacks Bledisloe 2 DIY player ratings: The results

By The Roar / Editor

The results are in! On Sunday we conducted our survey of how Roarers rated the Wallabies side that lined up for the second Bledisloe Cup Test against the All Blacks. 765 responses came through, and we’ve totalled up the results.

The Roarers weren’t kind, and really, why should you have been? While the Wallabies were slightly less pitiful than in the first Test, it was still a pretty poor performance no matter what way you looked at it.

Captain Stephen Moore is the player that is attracting the most concern at the moment, recording the lowest Average Rating of any player with a 2.87, and the only player to go as low as 2 on the Most Common Rating.

The Wallabies’ best peformers, on the other hand, were Will Genia with an Average Rating of 6.51 and Most Common Rating of 7, and Israel Folau with an Average Rating of 6.03 and Most Common Rating of 6.

Why does Hodge score so well for simply kicking a goal? He actually missed several tackles. His scores are given in hope as much as anything.

I think a number of people must assume Genia has simply been out injured as opposed to playing/ rehabbing overseas now

So what are all the Quade fan-bois whinging about? Quade got a better rating than Bernard Foley? I personally would give them both a five for the following reasons. I think it was unfair of Cheika to throw them both into the cauldron like that. Cooper hasn't played for a while and a first up match against the All Blacks in NZ would see most flyhalves destroyed. Foley is patently out of form and was forced to play 12 a position he has never excelled at. For a big chunk of the game he was first receiver too. He also had to kick the penalties and for touch too. Too much weight to carry for an out of form player in whom the coach has shown he no longer has much faith. The team would have been better served with a big running 12 like Hodge starting with Foley on the bench in case Cooper imploded. I was a big fan of Moore's two years ago but age, defeat and the captaincy has weighed on him and he is past it. He needs some time off if he is ever going to reinvigorate and regain any form. Overall I think the ratings are fair.

The highest rated Wallaby played under the Giteau rule. Maybe it needs to be applied a little more selectively

Forgettable games for Moore and Kepu, who call it a day sooner than later and avoid the ignominy of being dropped. Also, a number of senior players should be shown the door (after thanking them for their services to Australian rugby): namely AAC and DM. Almost forgot: bin the Giteau Law once and for all. It's time to get new blood and rebuid the Wallabies. Now or never!
