The Richmond rebels group known as ‘Focus on Footy’ says they are confident the Tigers are an ‘incredible chance’ of achieving success even though they are keeping many things the same if they win the leadership spill.

The challenge would see Peggy O’Neal replaced as president of the Richmond Football club and the recruiting department overhauled. The news of the spill ‘delighted’ elderly Richmond supporter Kevin Walters, who named coaching changes and board removals as one of his ‘favourite pastimes’.

Doctor Martin Hiscock went on record earlier this week saying he knew how ‘positively’ this news would be received given Richmond supporters ‘like a good leadership spill’ as much as Melbourne supporters adore top-ten draft picks and Paul Roos.

The group is said to be backed by two prominent Richmond people with a number of other identities supporting the movement behind the scenes. Betting was earlier suspended on Richard Tambling and Jarrad Oakley Nicholls being these two players with SportsBet issuing a statement which featured a crying emoji and the phrase ‘LOL’.

When pressed on the grand plans for the club should the rebel group win the spill, Hiscock detailed the overhauling of the recruiting department which failed to draft Nat Fyfe or Matthew Pavlich or Lance Franklin. Brendan Gale passed these assertions off as ‘mere oversights’.

The recruiting department could potentially be headed by Terry Wallace, former Richmond coach, who now spends his time proclaiming himself as ‘the list-manager’ despite never actually being employed as one.

‘When thinking about our direction for the club, we wanted to make old players and Richmond identities feel included in our vision’

‘In fact, I’d go further and say we really liked the way Brisbane goes about it with their ex-players’ Hiscock claimed.

The football department is also set for an overhaul with Neil Balme being targeted to head the department.

‘You’re kidding?’ Balme said.

‘I’ve masterminded Geelong’s premiership era and now I have to choose between Richmond, Brisbane and the Pies?’

At this moment Neil Balme asked for the interview to end as he broke down into tears.

Damien Hardwick, Dan Richardson and Brendan Gale would be assured of keeping their jobs if the new regimen came in.

When asked why, Hiscock said that while he had ‘no idea’, it just felt ‘right’. He also pointed to other decisions such as getting the club reviewed by an accounting firm as a ‘proud tradition’ in making strange decisions.

Richmond member Diane Franks said the decision was ‘typical’ of the football club which currently has a board which has served since the 1980’s.

‘Stability is one thing, but this is just another level’ Franks said before microwaving her membership.
