Brisbane centre Jack Reed has been forced to retire from the NRL due to complications from a shoulder injury.

The England international confirmed on Wednesday he was hanging up his boots after six years and 126 games for the Broncos.

Reed, 28, suffered the injury earlier in the year.

Despite surgery and rehabilitation, Reed has been told his shoulder will not recover to a sufficient level to allow him to play again.

Born in England, Reed began his Broncos career in 2011 and played in last year’s grand final defeat to North Queensland.

He also made four appearances for England at the 2011 Four Nations tournament, scoring tries against Wales and Australia.

Reed was also a member of the NRL All Stars team in 2012.

“It is a disappointing end for Jack but he can be very proud of what he has been able to achieve in his six years at the Broncos,” chief executive Paul White said.

“He came to us on the chance of a pre-season and in one year went from being a Queensland Cup player to a Test representative.

“We thank Jack for his efforts, and wish him and his lovely young family all the best for the future.”
