All Blacks vs Argentina highlights: All Blacks by 35

By Alan / Roar Guru

Match Results:

The All Blacks were far too good for the Pumas over 80 minutes, recording a thumping 35-point victory.

This is a team simply on another dimension compared to the rest of the world. For 50 minutes, the Pumas were in the running to cause a significant upset but then the All Blacks hit another gear and piled over 30 points in the second half to once again send a message to the rest of the rugby world.

With Barrett, Smith, Savea and Crotty all in great form, no team can touch the men in black. The Springboks get their chance next week. The Pumas meanwhile, get a chance for redemption against the Wallabies next week.

Final score:
All Blacks 57
Pumas 22

Argentina’s inclusion into the Rugby Championship and Super Rugby tournaments has seen the Pumas become a formidable team, capable of regularly beating rugby’s elite.

Having beaten the Springboks two weeks ago, the Pumas are full of confidence as they head to Hamilton to take on a New Zealand team whose domination of world rugby is absolute.

If the Pumas are to register a historic victory, they have to play the percentages against the most clinical Test side on Earth.

Argentina have improved their attacking play immeasurably, as evidenced by their scintillating tries against South Africa.

Against the All Blacks however, the Pumas need to employ a disciplined kicking game to establish territorial dominance. There is no need to take unnecessary risks against a side that invariably scores tries off opposition mistakes.

Indeed, the Wallabies were punished consistently for poor play in their own half in the first Test at ANZ Stadium, as New Zealand piled on the points to effectively kill off the contest by halftime.

The Pumas need to play attacking rugby in the right areas of the field. When given the opportunity to attack, Argentina should avoid going for three points, and instead put the All Blacks defence under pressure with a scrum or quick tap.

Even if points are hard to come by for Argentina, just keeping New Zealand in their own half for extended periods is a victory in itself for many teams, and it is a tactic that the Pumas have to employ if they are to produce a first-off win against the champion team.

If the Pumas can keep mistakes to a minimum, play territory, and back themselves in attack, they are a chance of testing New Zealand. Anything less and another comprehensive victory awaits for the All Blacks.

WELL THE ABs DONE IT AGAIN, ANOTHER BLOODY HIDING,FOR THE. WALLABIES, ARGIES & SA, TO BE BEATEN BY 30+ AT THIS LEVEL SAYS ALOT FOR THE CALIBRE OF THE ABs & DESPRERATION FOR THE OPPOSITION. WEVE ALL HEARD THEIR STORIES, FORGET THE FACT THAT ANY OF THESE TEAMS MAY HAVE ISSUES, THEY ARE PAID POFESSIONALS, THE ABs, FOR EXAMPLE LOST 6 GOOD PLAYERS IN ONE GO, THEY HAD TO ADJUST, ACCOMMADATE & MAKE IT WORK, DIDN'T HEAR THEM MOANING, GROANING & FULL OF EXCUSES, SO WHAT I'M SAYING IS, GIVE UP THE SYMPATHETIC COMMENTS , WHAT GOES DOWN IN THE HISTORY BOOKS, IS WHO WON, NOT HOW THEY PLAYED, WHO PLAYED, OR DIDNT PLAY, THERE ARE NO PRIZES FOR 2nd PLACE, WINNERS ARE GRINNERS. AWESOME ABs

yes this was an awesome game for the pumas, if it was only for 50min. I don't believe the pumas at any stage beat the ABs in the 1st 1/2, this wasn't a game of two 1/2s , but more about the commitment, passion, & attitude that the pumas bought into their game, this was more about staying with the ABs & containing them to a respectable score & they achieved this, but only for 50min. if all previous matches against the ABs this year, were the same as this game, would the same still be said for the pumas, I don't believe so, it will be more like criticism directed at the ABs & the coach.

Pot calling the kettle black! Sam Cane should have gone to the bin for the intentional charge in the back in the first half well off the ball. Locals very quick to more on, as they say in NZ nothing to see here move on we have the right to do the cheap shots just not take it. Looked very much like the Colman incident.

The problem of the Pumas today, is not the quality but the quantity of players. They do not have replacements for some important positions. Unable to use as Galarza and Carizza playing in Europe, and Lavanini (2.00 to 125 kg) injured, his replacement Guido Petti (1.93 104 kg) is smaller and lighter than Jerome Kaino (1.96 114 kg) and that in the second half it shows. Both Australia and New Zealand have locks above 2.00 meters, not Argentina. Another important player and the only back above 100 kilos, Manuel Montero (1.95 104 kilos)couldný play ider absent due to injury. So it is very difficult to confront 80 minutes facing a team like the AB's, besides the great talent of his players, have a physical power far superior to LPs.

Crotty had a great game! But I agree Felicia's decision making seems really rushed and he made a lot of mistakes, especially to kick that grubber after the siren had sounded!! I reckon Matt Todd to replace cane, great in the tight work that allows savea to exploits tired opposition. As Hansen said, Todd was the unluckiest man not to make the team.

Good to see Barrett, Ardie, Julian, and TJ Perenara (ok this is a Hurricanes troll post), bring it home for the ABs. I guess Coles has to be below par every now and then - watch him bounce back in Chch vs the Boks. Romano and Codie Taylor were also great off the bench. Congrats to Los Pumas - very exciting first half.

Yes this would have to be one of the toughest battles for the ABs since the RWC semi final v SA, that game was for the taking right up to the final whistle, 80 min of brutal rugby. Last nights game, for both teams , was competitive, tough,& at times a bit nerve racking, but as history kicked in, for the Pumas, they could only sustain this for just 50 min, from then on it was all over rover. As for the ABs, yes, just as all other teams whom have come before them, bringing their skill, passion, commitment & the will to win, only to be beaten by, either a respectable score line or a bloody thrashing, having left with nothing more than , we could have done this or we should have done that, hindsight has always been a beautiful word. I believe, there have always been 2 vital areas in the oppositions arsenal which fail dramatically. 1) The Pumas, like all others, suffer from the inability to maintain fitness & endurance for the full 80 min needed to stay competitive with the ABs to full time. 2) The opponents reserve bench don't seem to be of the same or of similar calibre as those players they are replacing, nor do they have the luxury of injecting good impact players , as do the ABs, this was evident last night. The consensus within the rugby world is this, in order to have any decent chance of beating the ABs, you need to play at their level & for the full 80 min, anything less then that, then your dream of beating the ABs will always be just that ,,,a dream,,. Never the less, 100% to the Pumas for commitment, effort & attitude, they played with heart & conviction, but unfortunately, to no avail. Best of luck & hope you guys wallop the WBs , go hard guys.

Hey, WQ, don't you like the deep, expert and informed commentary you get from PK - the game is not the same without him. Has a sort of boil on the backside quality if you take my meaning.

Thought there were a couple of goodies RT. Barrett certainly, Savea was back to his best and Kaino I thought was punishing. Crotty was solid and I still think Fekitoa is struggling with his timing and options. He seems to have this over urgency about him. Gimme the ball and now what am I gonna do with it? Kinda thing. I wanting Reiko in for Feks and Akira in for Cane who's out for a few weeks. Too much to ask?

Was the same last week. Franks dominated the discussion yet all the niggling, boot throwing was par for the course. Just the way it is.

Hi OB, Yes commented on that at the start of the match, that if they're going to play like that they need to do it for 80. I think most kiwis nowadays simply wait for the fatigue to kick in, so we're never alarmed at one or two early tries. If anything it ensures the ABs are fully wide and awake if they weren't already. And logically, you're likely to get the best of any side early, when fatigue or tiredness isn't an issue. Hansen referred to it in his aftermatch as well...they got a lot of go forward early and that took up a lot of energy but we still need to prevent that ...or something to that effect.

Serious question, when was the last time Jerome Kaino had an average game? His form has been sensational every game since the RWC knockout stage.

Good battle fellas....Argies came to play and their starting 15 were great to watch in terms of bottle, game plan skill level. They were matched by the focussed starting 15 AB's and after 40 mins were only 2 points apart. The points difference was tiny but even though so close, the gap was wide in how points were accumulated .....three tries to one. With the injection of the bench, and BB going nuts, the game quickly changed gear. AB's improved hugely, and the Argies slipped back in intensity when their bench arrived. I'll watch this game again as there was much to see and enthuse about as a rugby spectacle. Congratulations to both sides whose positive approach to the game could not be faulted for their positivity. Loved Creevy's reaction to being penalised.....shrug of the shoulders, put out his and to the ref to be dragged to his feet. Nice.

Great game. For me,it is only a matter of time before the Pumas roll the ABs.They almost have a complete game,it is only the fitness of the ABs that told in the end. Argentina get that aspect right, and the ABs will have a real game on their hands.Congragulations,Argentina, you were quite superb - a win v the ABs is within your reach.Good luck v Aussie next week.

I thought it was a great call also Taylorman! Aaron Smith has had a lot of rugby and they were never going to lose out by bringing TJ on at all, and it showed! The other subs were bang on also as the game needed to go up a couple of gears and it did! The All Blacks ran away in the end by doing what they do against teams of big stature, 'big dudes in other words as in Springbok',~ Play quick ball and with the quality kickers they have, they go for the strategic ''touch" and keep the ball in behind the opposition so they have to run, and run, and run, thereby the Blacks just turn the screw and win the game still full of running. Tthe All Blacks are an extremely fit team and will run all day particularly with the quality subs' they have ready when required, as in todays game! But kudos to the Argentinians the way they took it to the All Blacks, they are turning into a very good side indeed. Won't mention the other game on today, ~ dreadful!
