The third round of the League Cup has concluded, with upsets and some top-class matches.

Norwich has stood up Everton, while Preston defeated Bournemouth with an extra time goal.

Reading defeated Brighton. Reading’s Tyler Blackett was shown red in the 41st but the side continued on to win the game 2-1 regardless.

Liverpool comfortably surpassed Derby Country with goals from Ragnar Klavan, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi, however Jurgen Klopp has said he was not entirely impressed with the squads performance on the night.

Everton have been knocked out after going down to Norwich City 2-0. Goals from Steven Naismith and Jacob Murphy proved to be too much for the Blues as they were stood up in their own backyard.

Leeds United salvaged a late goal to defeat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 thanks to Chris Wood at Elland Road.

Newcastle United slotted two past the Wolverhampton Wanderers thanks to Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran. Rafa’s men attempting to put themselves back in contention with the Premier League sides.

Arsenal spreading four goals across the 90 minutes to defeat Nottingham Forest 4-0. Two goals from the new boy Lucas Perez, another long-range stunner from Granit Xhaka and a 90th-minute goal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comfortably supplied Arsenal with a third round victory.

And finally, my match of the round was Chelsea versus Leicester – the last two EPL champions. At 45 minutes, the score was 2-0 to Leicester after a Shinji Okazaki double.

Just before the half-time whistle, Gary Cahill pulled one back for the Blues. The 50th minute struck and a surprise goalscorer, Cesar Azpilicueta, made it 2-2 with 40 minutes to play. City’s Marcin Wasilewski was shown red in the 89th.

Extra-time would decide who would advance after the scores were level at the end of the 90. Enter Cesc Fabregas, who scored two goals, two minutes apart, in the 92nd and 94th to give Chelsea a two-goal lead and it would stay that way.

The final score at the end of 120 minutes, 4-2 Chelsea.

There are games featuring Manchester United, Manchester City, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur to come in the third round, so stay tuned to The Roar for updates
