England won the first match of this series setting a strong total of 309 when they went in to bat first, and then were able to bowl Bangladesh out with 13 balls remaining to take a win.

Ben Stokes was the hero of England’s innings, coming into bat at No.5 and making a century with a final total of 101 off 100 balls.

Jos Buttler also put in a knock of 63 runs, Ben Duckett put up 60, and opener Jason Roy had a total of 41 as the English built a quality total for Bangladesh to chase.

The Bangladesh side looked to be on pace for a win before they lost a slew of wickets late in their innings.

Opener Imrul Kayes put up an excellent knock of 112, and Shakib Al Hassan at No.6 added 79 to the total, but none of the other Bangladesh batsmen were able to hang in the game long enough to make a big impact.

When Al Hasan was Bangladesh’s fifth wicket to fall, they found themsleves at 271/5 with eight and a half wickets remaining.

Their tail just wasn’t strong enough to bat out a victory however, as they lost the last five runs for just 17 runs combined.

Adil Rashid and Jake Ball were the heroes of England’s bowling attack, taking four and five wickets respectively.

Prediction
Not much separated these two nations in the first ODI, so it’s difficult to see which way this one will go. England do head in as the favourites, however, if Bangladesh’s batting tail is able to lift its game, perhaps they can manufacture a winning result.

Bangladesh to win.
