Both teams are still unbeaten after 3 rounds in the A-League with Sydney FC sitting at the first place with nine points in three games and the Jets in the 4th place with 5 points from one win and two draws.
Despite the great record for both teams, last week their record was in danger, especially for the Jets.
In the previous game against the Wanderers, Jets found themselves behind the score with 2-0 at halftime, however, they took advantage of two mistakes of from Wanderers goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne to equalize the game with two goals on 81’ and 88’ minute.
At the other hand, Sydney FC had an average game compared to their previous games of the season, however, managed to win with a goal by Milos Ninkovic in 91′ minute.
It could be argued that their players were probably tired from the FFA Cup game against Canberra Olympic. Of course, the game was easy but it was still 90 minutes played at an early stage of the season.
On team news, the Newcastle Jets signed the former youth international Ma Leilei as their fifth visa player on the roster. Ma Leilei previously played for Portuguese team Cova da Piedade which is competing for the second division in Portugal. According to Jets Head Coach Mark Jone, Ma would not play against Sydney FC because is too early for him.

In A-League these sides have met 35 times, with Sydney FC winning 21 and the Jets just 6. Eight games finished with a draw. Also, Sydney FC won the last five games with three of them being at the McDonald James Stadium. Finally, the last win for the Jets came back in 2012 when they won by 2-1.
Prediction
This is probably the toughest game for Sydney FC for the season so far. But I think their elite offensive line will make the difference and win the game. Also, their excellent history against the Jets is a plus.

Match report Recap of the First Half Sydney FC was much better in all the first half , having great ball movement and pressuring the opponent very high forcing them for false passes. They manage to open score with Alex Brosque after a fantastic pass by Ninkovic. After that goal, they keep pressing creating only one chance with Holosko. At the other hand, the last few minutes of the game the Jets became more dangerous mostly throw free kicks. However the chance came in the 45′ when Ugarkovic was alone in the penalty spot with his shot go out. That was a big chance for the Jets to equalize the game before the end of the first half. Recap of the Second Half Sydney FC manages to score the second goal on the 48' minute. After that, the game became very sloppy with a lot of fouls from both sides. The Jets keep being pathetic in the game and to be honest they look little bit scared, they didn't make any big chance except in the last 7-8 minutes of the game.At the other hand, SydneyFC manages the game correct and lose two good chances to score a third goal. Also, the six substitutions slowed the game a lot. Conclusion With the second goal SydneyFC put the nail in the coffin despite having 42 minutes left , and that was mainly due to the bad performance by the Jets, which to be honest have a lot of injuries this season.Sydney FC after 4 games shows how serious is this year , at the other hand, the Jets was no match for Sydney FC and certainly need to improve more.
