Manchester City vs Barcelona highlights: Champions League scores, blog

Manchester City will be looking to avenge an embarrassing loss when they host Group C leaders Barcelona at Etihad Stadium. Join The Roar from 6:45am (AEDT) for live scores and commentary.

After a disappointing few games, Manchester City got their Premier League season back on track with a 4-nil win over West Bromwich Albion.

Sergio Aguero scored twice in the first half before Ilkay Gundogan found the net twice in the second 45 to ensure City remained atop the table.

Now, the Citizens look to do the same with their Champions League campaign, and standing in their way is a Barcelona side that has been the thorn in their side for the past few years.

Despite a rocky start to their La Liga season by their standards, Barcelona have managed to win their past three league games and now sit in second place, just two points behind rivals Real Madrid.

Their Champions League campaign however, has been perfect, with three from three wins, including a 4-nil thrashing over Manchester City just over two weeks ago.

It was City’s heaviest-ever Champions League defeat.

Lionel Messi bagged a hat-trick, before Neymar nailed the coffin of the Citizens in the 89th minute in front of 96,000 people at Camp Nou.

This will be the third time in four seasons that Barcelona and Manchester City meet, and the Spanish side has proven to be their worst nightmare, winning their past five encounters against the Citizens, and only conceding twice.

Prediction
Time and time again, Barcelona have proven that they can dismantle Manchester City all over the pitch. It will take something special for the Citizens to get all three points, but if they can avoid conceding early, they are in with a chance.

Manchester City 0 – 2 Barcelona

Brilliant from City. That second half was truly something else from them. Their pressing game was lethal to say the least. They pushed Barca deep into their own half forcing them to pass in dangerous areas. De Bruyne is making serious claims here as one of the best in Europe right now. Aguero has been at that level for years now and is only getting better. They get some consistency going and they could make a splash in Europe this season. But I have my doubts despite the obvious ability on show this morning.
