Since their 2011 semi-final loss to the New Zealand Warriors, the Wests Tigers have not played in finals football. They have only played in two finals series since their fairytale premiership in 2005.

The year 2017 could be a big one for the club, players and fans. After finishing one spot outside the eight this season, the Tigers will be itching to go better next year.

It’s a big call to make so early, but I can only see improvement in this Tigers squad, and with a little bit of confidence, they can work wonders.

Moral is one of the most important aspects of any rugby league side. It’s not talked about much as a pivotal component, but it can sometimes be the difference between a win and a loss.

The right mindset can pick up a team’s form, and vice versa. I believe the Tigers will be taking plenty of self-belief into 2017, after exceeding expectations in 2016.

A lot of controversy has left the club and is now wearing the famous cardinal red and myrtle green. So if there was ever a drama-free year to be had, it’s 2017.

The recent signing of Jamal Idris, and re-signing of Elijah Taylor, will also boost the feel around the club.

If they can get through a solid preseason, with the likes of Mitch Moses, James Tedesco and Aaron Woods all in top form, then watch this space.

As well as the usual suspects, plenty of young guys like Taniela Paseka, Jacob Liddle and Josh Aloiai will also improve with high moral.

Of course it comes down to more than just self-belief, but the Tigers are the sort of team that thrive off of confidence.

It should be a good year for Tigers fans. It’s unlikely that there will be a premiership at the end of the tunnel, but 2017 will be a massive step forward for such a young club.

What do you think about the Tigers’ chances next season?
