This match isn’t going to do much to change the standings at the end of the groups stage – it’s the final match for both teams, Manchester City will progress in second, Celtic will be knocked out in last place, regardless of the result here.
But, that means we just might get a game here. Manchester City are the clear favourites but with essentially nothing on the line they might loosen up a bit and that could make for a quality fixture.
One of the questions for them going into the game will be whether or not to bring in Sergio Aquero, who has a four-match ban thanks to his lunge at Chelsea’s David Luiz on the weekend.
“If Sergio is going to play or not, I am going to decide today or tomorrow,” said Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Monday. “I don’t know at the moment.
“There will be changes, definitely. I am so happy to give minutes to people who deserve to play and who did not play in the last games.”
City are coming into the match after an extremely disappointing result which saw them go down 1-3 to fellow Premier League title contenders Chelsea on the weekend.
Celtic, on the other hand, had a thrilling fixture against Motherwell which they won 4-3 after Australian Tom Rogic scored the winner in the 90th minute.
If Celtic are to get the win on the road here against the odds, then another piece of magic from one Australia’s favourite footballing sons would go a long way.
