South Africa’s rugby union announced major changes to the structure of the game in the country on Friday, but resisted the immediate temptation to dismiss embattled coach Allister Coetzee.
SA Rugby’s all-powerful General Council met on Friday to push through a raft of constitutional changes, but Coetzee’s future remained uncertain after the team suffered the worst year in their history by losing eight of their 12 Tests.
Coetzee will provide a report to SA Rugby’s High Performance Committee on Tuesday, which will then make a recommendation to the organisation’s Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee has taken over from the General Council as the decision-makers at SA Rugby and will select future Bok coaches in another of the constitutional changes announced on Friday.
This takes the power of coach selection out of the hands of the 15 individual unions in the country and into SA Rugby’s inner sanctum, headed by president Mark Alexander.
Other constitutional changes have been pushed through that SA Rugby hope will provide a more solid platform from which to select future Bok squads.
Squad selection will no longer be made by committee and instead a single convenor will work with the coach.

Right on Biltongbek. I previously commented on the remarkable similarities between the demise of E.P Rugby and the current path SA Rugby is on. Once Cheeky Watson had taken over the reigns of a team in carnage ( A carnage I believe he played no small part in creating) he publically promised massive sponsorships and new strategic partners into the E.P Kings set up. Unfortunately sponsors are a bit like bookmakers. They are often right , not easily fooled and they go to where their bets are best hedged. A private equity partner will fall into the same category as a sponsor. Finally and most importantly include your most important constituency in your procedural outcomes. ....The loyal paying supporters and the players. This document totally and utterly ignores us.
You have no colective effort between franchise, SARU and the smaller provinces already. Now you want to ontroduce private stake holders as well. How is that going to turn out? Start at the beginning before adding more parties with their own agendas to the mix
Musical chairs isn't going to solve this

You mean during the amateur era where every nation severely limited their player base? Please engage your grey matter before making comparisons this stupid again.

Hoskins didn't have a choice no one really expressed interest in the job and Rassie hadn't coached for a while. He also stated that he wasn't ready for the role. Coetzee has far more experience than the likes of Jake White when he was hired.

In a recent article published in SA Paddy Upton , respected cricket coach states the following " In a Dressing room influence is power , and wherever that influence leans , that is where the power lies ,he says "In the modern game , the power does not sit with the coach but with well respected senior players . It could be that in a squad three key figures hold 60-70% of the influence. If they tip over and turn against the coach, the entire dressing room will follow". Coetzee clearly has lost the dressing room and according to Upton in the same article , once lost can't be regained.

Ït takes the power of coach selection out of the hands of the 15 individual unions in the country and into SA Rugby's inner sanctum , headed by President Mark Alexander " ???????? Firstly this is a direct admission that the incorrect coach was chosen by the 15 unions , otherwise why take the decision making away from them. Secondly just who is this inner sanctum and whose interests do they represent. Thirdly giving Coetzee with one other convener total autonomy over team selection means just what ??? Who is this convener to be and whose interests will he represent .Its just window dressing .

Won't make any difference until the racial politicking gets out of the sport.

There is not much point talking about changes and leaving Coetzee in the job.The minimum requirement should be to replace him with someone competent and not a political appointment. And,the logical choice would be Ackermann.
