Match preview:

Two of the top five teams clash in one of the games of the round on Saturday night when Perth Glory host the Brisbane Roar at nib Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 10pm (AEDT).

The Glory are flying at the moment having lost only one of their last eight games and coming in on a 5-0 thrashing over the reigning champions and current cellar-dwellers Adelaide United.

Perth’s dangerous attack continued their rich vein of form having kicked 12 goals in their last six games. Striker duo Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart have formed a dangerous combination with nine goals apiece this season.

Taggart especially is on fire having scored in six of the last seven games.

Brisbane have also struck some form after a poor start to this year. They have been unbeaten in their last four and but would’ve been disappointed with last week’s second half fade out where they blew a two-goal lead in their 2-2 draw against Melbourne City.

The Roar would be kicking themselves for not punishing City further late in the first half and early in the second when they had a few genuine scoring opportunities.

A combination of poor defence and a controversial penalty denied them the full three points.

Prediction
It’s a battle for third spot effectively and it will be interesting to see how the Roar’s defence handles Perth’s attacking quartet with Diego Castro and Chris Harald supporting their two strikers. The Roar conceded six goals the last time they were in Perth.

Not that the Roar are devoid of talent – Orr, Broich, Holman and Maclaren all can turn a game quickly.

It will be interesting to see what coach John Aloisi does in regards to selection with Roar due to play an Asian Champions League game on Tuesday night. Aloisi may decide to rest a few.

Hard to stop the Glory in this form, especially at home and with possibly an eye on Tuesday’s game the Roar may be distracted enough to give the Glory the edge.

Perth 3-1

A tough run due to the fixture congestion and the amount of travel involved so an 'away' point is not a bad result. One consequence of this is a certain positive...JA has had to call on some of his Youth squad, and they have shown enough quality to suggest that some have a bright future in the Pro game. Looking forward to the ACL at 'home' on Tuesday night. Great to see Ingham score!

Brisbane Roar should have won. The defense is still not good. Yes, the ball was out. However, how could Devere kicked the ball to the opponent that way without any pressure. He was also partly responsible for the loss of the second ball. The reason being that he failed to mark the forward, Taggart.

Lou -Thanks for the report and nice to read about your opinion on the two talented ,experienced, midfielders on show. My attention on the night was drawn to another midfielder, the kid Caletti , thrown into the deep end of this makeshift Roar line-up , after having impressed me greatly in Roar's game in China. This kid's play to me is the epitome of what all good "link men", should do on the field ,that is to always be available in a space to receive a ball and to move the ball on with speed and accuracy to a team mate. This "debut" in the HAL made me watch him even more carefully and apart from a nervous 5 minutes at the start, he went on to stamp his name on the game, from memory, mis-placing 2 passes and getting caught in possession once .when a pass that should never have been sent to him saw him dispossessed, and even that could have been a foul. All this in 90 minutes from an 18 year old.. Even Thomas and Diego couldn't match those stats. Cheers jb

A pulsating game in the Perth heat which saw Brisbane and Perth play a 2-2 draw. The game started slowly, the first half hour saw more yellow cards than shot on goals, but after that the teams found their groove and produced some excellent football. A Thomas Broich cross to Jamie McLaren saw the opening goal in the 31st minute. Just over five minutes later, a bit of controversy when Castro appeared to take the ball over the line but the ref didn't see it. Luke DeVere made a poor clearance straight to Marinkovic, who from just outside the box placed it into the corner of the net. 17 year old Roar youngster Dane Ingham then combined with Broich in the 40th minute to score a terrific goal form just inside the box to give the Roar the lead once again. Early in the second half probably saw the goal of the night with Castro and Harold combining to set up Taggart of the equaliser and Taggart's seventh goal in his last eight games. This was a game that saw tow of the league's most talented players pout on a clinic. Diego Castro and Thomas Broich were superb and at the heart of nearly all of their teams' attacks. Broich in particular was sublime on the ball with crisp passing. A terrific game in difficult conditions but the 10,000 plus crowd would have walked away well satis fied that they had witnessed an entertaining game. FINAL SCORE Perth Glory - 2 Brisbane Roar - 2

It's not often you see a 2-2 game and think man this game could have had a lot more goals.

Very impressed with Brisbane considering their heavy schedule at the moment. Perth always look like a team that should be higher up the table than they actually are.
