Crows cruise home in comeback win 113-89

Adelaide have come away with four points to stay on top of the ladder as they defeat Hawthorn by 24 points at the MCG.

Hawthorn dominated the first term with Luke Breust kicking three goals and Tom Mitchell having 12 disposals, taking them out to a 24-point quarter time lead.

It looked very much like the Hawthorn of old. Josh Jenkins copped a knock to the ribs and looked in real trouble being helped off the ground and was sent straight to the hospital.

In the second quarter, it was all Adelaide with them dominating the inside 50s and general play. Arguably should have been closer then the 13-point halftime margin, if they hadn’t missed so many chances.

The third quarter was all the Eddie Betts show with some absolute brilliant moments. Selling James Frawley some candy to then slot it on his left from 40, then receiving a handball over the top and kicking a checkside from the boundary.

Hawthorn stayed in touch and were only four points down going into the last break. But Isaac Smith was already off and sadly they got another injury with Liam Shiels also getting a corked hip and having to be assisted off the ground, his day done also.

With the lack of interchanges and a rampant Adelaide it was always going to be hard for Hawthorn to stay in touch. As expected they dropped off as unsung hero David Mackay kicked three final quarter goals to seal the game.

Final score

Hawthorn Hawks 13.11.89
Adelaide Crows 16.17.113

Why are you defending poor umpiring? A poor decision is a poor decision regardless of the team you support.

Agree, Mackay did not fall onto Poppy's back, as Peppsy suggests. He crouched over him. It says a lot for Poppy's composure that he could slot that goal after he despairingly pretended to be making an attempt to dispose of the ball.

Except that it was nothing near a push in the back..you know umpires are not supposed to guess

Jesus Christ go back to fox footy. "Doesn't mention Jenkins injury" " Josh Jenkins copped a knock to the ribs and looked in real trouble being helped off the ground and was sent straight to the hospital." It also doesn't mention that Adelaide dominated contested marks, why should it mention every stat And no, it wasn't the worst call, it should've been holding the ball, yes, but imagine the umpires vision was obscured for the start of it, and all he can see clearly is the player falling on Poppy's back. That's push in the back under the current rules. It's like calling Aliir Aliirs holding of Cloke on Friday the worst call in history because Cloke was holding him as well. Both happened, umpire saw one. Simple, end of story.

Interestingly, what with their injuries, neither team used all of their interchanges. The Hawks used less than the Crows. As Don Pyke said, the most telling part of the game was the composure of the Crows in changing the way they were playing. Typified by Sloane deciding to tackle and pressure when he found he couldn't get into the game. Then, in the last quarter, he found his touch with a contested mark in the goal square, and 13 disposals. This team is showing some maturity for the 4 th youngest.

Umpiring was as expected and yes that free to poppy was an utter disgrace. The umpire that gave it should be dropped as it wasn't even a 50-50 call..although the clown sitting infront of us thought we were idiots for disputing it..even after the replay. Go figure

Obviously a Hawthorn supporter, doesn't mention Jenkin's injury and its affect on Adelaide's rotations for the whole match. Doesn't mention the lopsided free kick count with the Hawks getting double the Crows free kicks. The biggest umpiring clanger (deliberate assist?) of the century helped Poppy goal to help Hawthorn stay in the game.
