Past the post: Caulfield blackbookers

By Adam Page / Roar Guru

Despite being the fourth Saturday meeting in a row, the Caulfield track played superbly and there were some really good runs to come out of the program.

Hopefully there are some future winners listed below.

Follow
Moonlites Choice – Second up syndrome perhaps? Add the fact she was staying at 1100m despite looking for further. Wouldn’t sack her even though it looked poor on paper.

Doubt I’m Dreaming – The bubble burst but I wouldn’t sack him. Five weeks between runs and the leader got a picnic in front. He will go for a spell and I’m sure he will come back as a very good three year old.

Star Exhibit – He was a better horse than them, but first up for the new stable over an unsuitable trip and was wide no cover. He had everything go against him but he still surged and finished best. Follow him with confidence.

Onpicalo – Talented galloper for Mick Price who was second up at the mile here and did a really good job to finish as close as he did. Third up next start, he can go close to winning at odds.

Forget
Fomo – Not a city horse yet after this. Looked to control things nicely mid-race but he caved in very quickly and tired badly. Not for the city at the moment.

Anaheim – Not the SA Derby winner. If he was, he would have attacked the line and finished much better off here, but it was just a run.

Taddei Tondo – Bit obvious and easy, but he does have to go in. Just not racing well enough, even with the drop in grade.

Leotie – Was prepared to forgive her for the Flemington failure, but she did absolutely nothing here. Jury is well and truly out. She can win again. But she can do it without me.

Espiritu in r 7 Caufeild caught my eye at huge odds .. Wide gate jumped well but had to be eased back from getting caught deep ended up last and 10l last on the home turn getting home the strongest only beaten 2.5 , only has to draw a good marble next time in a race similar to right in the finish . I hope they bet the same price ..

Race 7 Caulfield. Espiritu having her first go down here coming from Brisbane was a eye catching run , wide gate had to go back and on the home turn was close to 10l of the lead . Finished sixth beaten 2.5 l and running close to the fastest last 200m surely only has to draw a better gate next time in a similar race to be right in the finish !! I bet they want be putting up 50 plus to 1 next time ..

I love following the horses that your team mention . But was gob smack not to see the NSW Northern Rivers mare , Espiritu named . Having her first run down here the opposite way to her normal direction and at the tricky Caulfield track and starting from a wide alley for a 1100 m . She seemed to jump well and with so much pace kicking up inside her was shuffled back to last early and still last on the bend her last 200m section was super from where she came from , I'd say close to 10lenghts of the lead commencing the straight . I've since looked closer at her previous form up north an she is mare that has mostly has won her races camping on the leaders back before the straight run home . Saying all this if she draws a alley from 5 in , in her next start I'm on for sure . Most definitely the run of the race and had to change her racing pattern !!!

Two weeks ago I backed Charming Lad at 25/. he went straight to the lead and was beaten by a good horse or should I say better horse in in Hooked. He's one of these horses who has to lead or cannot win. He went out favourite yesterday and from barrier 5 sat second outside the leader. Talking from the pocket I was disappointed in the tactics immediately. knowing he was a sitting duck. Star Exhibit was an impressive winner but I thought wrongly that he was just a stayer resuming, and although short odds about $5.00 I didn't see this first up run being a winning objective. Charming Lad has been good to me , I'd prefer he lead , not sit in the death seat, as they say in the trots.
