Ninkovic makes a call on Sydney FC future

By Emma Kemp / Roar Guru

Milos Ninkovic is an A-League marquee player after Sydney FC rewarded their star player with a one-year contract extension outside the salary cap.

As expected, the club confirmed the Serbian 32-year-old will see out a third season in sky blue two days after sealing their premiership-championship double.

His wage will swell considerably in the second marquee slot, likely alongside Brazilian striker Bobo, leaving Filip Holosko’s future up in the air.

Ninkovic flourished in his second season and played a huge hand in propelling Sydney to a historic campaign flush with competition records.

“Milos has proven to be a class above this season and his understanding with the rest of our strike force will only continue to flourish,” coach Graham Arnold said.

“It is a huge tribute to Sydney FC, our staff and the culture we have at the club, that after such a fabulous season, he has agreed to come back for another year.”

Ninkovic, who scored the title-winning penalty in Sunday’s grand final against Melbourne Victory, will head home to Serbia this week before returning to Sydney for pre-season training in July.

“I love this club, this city, my teammates and our wonderful members,” Ninkovic said.

“This season has been the most special of my career and long may it continue.

“We have a fantastic squad and we want to stay together and continue to create history.”

We all know where the allegiances lie with the panel at Fox , Thompson is blatant with his support and comments like "I don't like Sydney" aren't repeated by the other panelists saying "I don't like Melbourne" , the guy is not fit to be a panelist. As for MV fan base being happy with KM , accept the fact your coach is completely devoid of ideas on how stop decent footballing opposition in a big game. 2 gf's sinking to thuggery , one he got away with and one within a whisker , a great tactician , a great mastemind , a coaches dream - in the Scottish 3rd division , no where else On another note , the restauranteur with the no.1 ticket holding at MV has been charged with assault - seems Kevin's tactics affected many and sundry from south of the border. Paying people what their worth together with their super entitlements may have kept our friend George out of trouble

"I can tell you that Kevin Muscat’s teams have been consistently rated amongst the most attractive football teams in the ALeague." Not in the grand final though. Knew they couldn't match SFC so went the Rangers/Millwall Muscat tactical route. I would love to see Muscat test himself overseas as a manager. The only place he would fit in would be Scotland. You can say whatever you like Nemesis, but he isn't a great manager. Neither is Graham Arnold. Both would be found out overseas (Arnold already has in Japan). Poppa has experience as assistant coach with Crystal Palace but his teams don't exactly play enterprising football either. The only Aussie manager to do thus far has been Ange Postecoglou. It's a sad indictment on our coaching ranks in Australia but let me put this question to you: When Ange resigns after the 2018 world cup (if we make it), do you think Muscat should be the next in line for the national team job? If yes, then outline why. Arnold's already had a go and wasn't successful. The FFA would be looking overseas for a national team manager and rightly so.

I can tell you that Kevin Muscat's teams have been consistently rated amongst the most attractive football teams in the ALeague. It's part of the reason why Victory has a big Membership & the highest crowds, whilst Graham Arnold's team that only lost once couldn't even draw in their diehard fans to come watch them play.

He goes out in style having won the double. His greatest triumphs; Signing Del Piero Winning the double Re-signing of Ninko. Thank you Tony, enjoy your next career move, even if it's to another A-League club in Australia's 2nd city.

I can tell you right now that Muscat would not be good enough to be coach of the Socceroos. Arnold isn't either but Muscat's tactics might work with the refereeing in Australia, but in overseas competitions he couldn't employ the dirty tactics with the exception of probably Scotland. He would be a good fit with Rangers. as for the cheerleaders on FoxSports, you probably haven't seen Slater, Rudan and Bozza wax on about the Wanderers when they are playing well. Remember most of those guys come from Western Sydney, where a lot of Socceroos have come from eg. Kewell, Emerton, Popovic, Kalac, Schwarzer, Culina, Bosnich, Okon... all westies, so they will always have a soft spot for Sydney clubs, especially the Wanderers.

He's going back home to Melbourne. It was very obvious with his twitter account that he was from south of the border......

The Sydney FC cheerleaders on Fox Football are: Robbie Slater Simon Hill Andy Harper Mark Rudan Mike Cockerill Tara Rushton, Ned Zelic, Mark Bosnich & Adam Peacock are very objective & no one has issues with them. Archie Thompson is not part of the Fox Football team. He was only there because MVFC were playing.

Punter , you nailed it in one , no correspondence should be entered into Archie Thompson!!!! Yes Muscat calls out Slater as a SFC cheerleader If Slater is a cheerleader, what is Thompson, by far the most bias panelist on the Fox team, he doesn’t even tries to hide it As for Muscat's tactics in the GF , his coaching licence should be stamped "Not employable in Australia" We want to raise the profile of football in this country , have youngsters play the right way and show potential coaches how to devise ways of beating an opposition side without using back street alley, UFC fighting techniques

"Exodus from Sydney FC continues " Hardly. Granted Pignata has done a fine job and will be missed. A football man with a smart business brain. I dare say Melbourne City might come knocking. Otherwise, the core of the squad - Vuka, Grant, Wilko, Zullo, Brillante, O'Neill, Ninko are all signed with Bobo and Brosque a formality. Ibini is leaving which is disappointing as I like him but he has been relatively peripheral this year. Holosko will likely go unless he is willing to take unders - but if FC fans had to choose out of Holosko, Bobo or Ninko for the 2 marquee spots I think we know who'd be picked.

Archie Thompson!!!! Yes Muscat calls out Slater as a SFC cheerleader If Slater is a cheerleader, what is Thompson, by far the most bias panelist on the Fox team, he doesn't even tries to hide it. He even called out Buijs as a diver, when he played with Berisha. IMO, both Buijs & Berisha are divers, but what makes them different is that Buijs accepts it when others (Borda dived & won freekick late in xtra time), but Berisha complains about others diving when he is the biggest diver. Nemesis, I never said Carney deserves man of the match, just that he dominated Georgievski when he came on, so saying he got the man of the match award for his work on Holosko. Michael I agree with you on Brillante & Borda defensively was far better then Georgievski.

Yes I think that's correct. The Fox Football Panel are filled with Sydney FC fans so I'd be surprised if any Victory player got any votes.

I'm told by people who saw the broadcast that Brillante was judged man of the match by Fox Sports. I guess no one player stood out. Perhaps only the centre halves on both teams. I personally thought Brillante should have won the Marston Medal. He was absolutely critical to Sydney taking control from the second half. But as you say, it's academic.

Nah. Danny Georgievski played 120 mins and he was voted Best Player in the 2017 ALeague Grand Final. The voting panel saw what David Carney did on the park and they gave his direct opponent the Best Player Award. The 2nd highest votes went to Alan Baro and then Carl Valeri. I presume some Sydney players were in the Top 10, but I can't be sure. You may not agree. I may not agree. But, neither of us are asked to vote for the Joe Marston Medal, so it really is irrelevant what we think. Troisi had one of his quietest games for Victory this season. Same with Rojas. But, guys like Broxham, Valeri & Danny Georgievski stepped up.

So Georgievski was excellent for half the game as he kept Holosko quiet, but faded when carney came on & won the battle quite easily. As for best player over 120 mins, yes he won the award & congrats to him, but not in my eyes, there was better players in Brillante, Ninkovic, Borda & Troisi.

Bernie is a loss, especially as he is getting some fitness back. Both Holosko & Dimitrijevic have been great servants, but are replaceable, especially as they are foreign players. Carney no longer a 90 min player, showed when he faded in GF xtra time, after changing the game & dominating the Marston medal winner, Georgievski when he came on. So close to winning a penalty in the 2nd half of Xtra time. Hope he stays, is a match winner.

Usual exodus of players from the Champions/Premiers is starting. Being reported Holosko will be leaving Sydney FC and Bernie Ibini will be joining Vancouver in the MLS. I'd be surprised if David Carney is willing to spend another season sitting on the bench. He's probably not welcome at Jets, but he'd likely get a starting spot at most other clubs. Same with Dimitrijević - can't see him sitting on the bench for another season. Jets or CCM beckons. Maybe even WSW?
