Rapana scores Raiders winner to break losing streak

By Samuel Ashton / Roar Guru

The Canberra Raiders won a thriller in Parramatta against the Eels to end their losing streak.

It was a game that could have gone either way, with both sides having turns in controlling the game and being the dominant side.

However, Canberra have gotten home in the end ending a winless run of three matches and keeping their top eight hopes alive.

The first half started greatly for Canberra, scoring quickly and sprinting out to a 4-0 lead after Cotric crashed over out wide.

The Raiders were dominating down the middle, running Parramatta into the ground in defence.

Soon the Raiders were 10-0 up after some enterprising play led to Leilua crashing over down the right-hand side.

Canberra however started to lessen their intensity, and the game entered a state of flux entering the last 10 minutes of the half.

However, Parra got one back, with Ma’U scoring in the corner after some great but lucky play to score and bring the margin to six.

Jennings then scored at the buzzer after some great play by Semi Radradra to even it up at half time.

The Eels started the second half well, scoring quickly through Vave and getting out to a 16-10 lead through some great attacking play.

The Eels continued to dominate but out of nowhere a great pass by Croker sets up Blake Austin to score and equalise for Canberra, 16-all and game on.

It looked like it was going to golden point before Jordan Rapana scored a fantastic try in the corner to steal all the points for the Raiders.

Final score
Parramatta Eels 16
Canberra Raiders 22

Ricky has got to do the right thing by himself, us fans & the team. Jack Whighton can't cut the mustard. Not that he doesn't try. Personally I don't dislike him, however how many errors can one bloke make in such a critical position. Last nights game he dropped a bomb, which on slow motion showed him in the air looking at who was coming at him, Jack you can't catch the ball if your not looking at it. Ricky say's 'Jack has ability' (Yes he does, but his ability to make error's is outstanding). As a parent of three boys I love them just as much as Ricky openly states he loves Jack. However if my boys were working for me & continually not able to do the job required, even after considerable mentoring & support I'd have to move them on, or go broke. The Raiders already have two ready made replacements for that job. Cotric & Santo. I accept that Cotric is probably inexperienced at this time. Santo has had just two goes at fullback, the first against the Bronco's last year, he was man of the match. This year against the Cowboys he didn't do anything wrong other than being too buggered when Thurston's kick hit the crossbar in golden point. Yes Jack can run into a hole, has a great passing game, makes or misses the odd tackle & is a good bloke. But he is the most error ridden fullback in the competition. Do us & Jack a favour Ricky & give him a go at the Mounties, maybe he can improve his error rate & therefore is overall game there.

Raiders starting to fine tune their preparations for a serious tilt at premiership in 2018. Storm have this year's in the bag so not such a bad thing for Ricky.
