In 2017 it was Rory Sloane of the Adelaide Crows kicking the first major of the game from a set shot, directly in front of goal.

There was a tough few opening minutes to start the match and Daniel Rioli of the Richmond Tiger had the first chance, kicking for goal on the run.

His shot didn’t make the distance however and was cleared out of defence by the Crows, who then went forward to set up Sloane.

Sloane calmly slotted the set shot to make it the first goal of the game for the Adelaide Crows.

It was the first of two quick goals in the opening minutes for the Crows, and with Eddie Betts quickly chiming in.

Richmond struck back however with consecutive goals through Josh Caddy and Bachar Houli to take the lead.

However, another ripping goal from Rory Sloane and a quick follow-up from Hugh Greenwood before quarter time put the Crows back in control at the first break.

However Richmond lifted both their intensity and defensive pressure in the second term, ultimately kicking four goals to none for the Crows, and taking a nine-point lead into the half-time break.

Jack Riewoldt, Jacob Townsend, Jack Graham and Dustin Martin all chimed in with goals in the second term for the Tigers.

Adelaide saw five behinds without a goal in the second term, three of them rushed and the other two coming from Eddie Betts and Tom T Lynch.
