The Wellington Phoenix host Adelaide United as both teams from outside last year’s top eight look to start well. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3pm (AEDT).

Both of these sides struggled last year, but the Phoenix, with a range of new players joining the club are out to secure a finals berth for the first time in three years.

New Wellington coach Darije Kalezic wants his side to focus on retaining possession while playing attractive football this season. Furthermore, Kalezic wants to rebuild and create a fortress at home in which other teams will fear to play at.

Skipper Andrew Durante believes the side can be a real title contender.

On the Flip side, we have Adelaide United whose fall from grace was a surprise to everyone. From title holders to almost wooden spooners last season, Adelaide will desperately look to start their season on a high and will see an opportunity to do so.

Adelaide coach Marco Kurz believes his side has enough experience to handle the long trip away, and with a side that already knows each other well, it could certainly be a bonus for Adelaide heading into this match.

Prediction
Wellington have a new team needing to adjust, and Adelaide’s first real competitive match will come up against a side with lots of hope and belief in themselves.

A draw here seems likely. 2-2.
