Wallabies rookie Izack Rodda has been ruled out for the rest of the year after opting for surgery on his injured shoulder.

The decision will ensure the 21-year-old lock, who has started in Australia’s last two Test outings, is fit in time for the new Super Rugby campaign.

Rodda only made his debut for the Queensland Reds in the opening round of this season but quickly impressed Wallabies coach Michael Cheika, who handed him a debut off the bench in the narrow Bledisloe Cup defeat in Dunedin.

Out for a year and out for the rest of the year?

Pretty big difference. Fortunately it’s the latter.

So does Simmons start? Would much rather Arnold. He looked like a man playing against boys in the small part of the NRC game I saw.

That was the impression I had of Rory at the ground. Hopefully his knee knock is minor.

Cheika: Please let this player get injured, so I can stop picking him, even though there is literally nothing stopping me from not picking him. That way I can select a player in a position that I’ve literally never picked him for.

Hard luck on the big fella, is a promising prospect. Look forward to seeing him go round in red again next year.

Start Tui. Simmons can come off the bench, early if the linout/scrum is a distaster.
