The NBA season is underway, and 2016’s No.1 draft pick, Australian Ben Simmons, will make his long-awaited debut for the Philadelphia 76ers against the Washington Wizards in their opening game.

Simmons’ first match in the NBA is scheduled to tip-off at 10am (AEDT) on Thursday, October 19 at the Capital One Arena in Washington.

Simmons was originally drafted by the 76ers ahead of last season with the No.1 pick, but didn’t get to step on the court in an NBA game after suffering a serious leg injury.

Originally ruled out until Christmas, his recovery was slower than anyone anticipated and he was eventually ruled out for the season.

He returned to the court during the pre-season though, playing strongly during the NBA Summer League and pre-season matches and is now expected to be in the starting five for the 76ers, should the pre-season give us any guide to go off.

How to watch the match on TV

Ben Simmons NBA debut will be broadcast live on American sports network ESPN. They are the only channel with broadcast rights to show the NBA in Australia, and will have multiple games on each week, totalling nearly 200 across the course of the season.

While Simmons won’t have every game shown on ESPN, the game against the Wizards will be.

The broadcast will begin at 10am (AEDT). While tip-off is scheduled for the same time, NBA games commonly tip off ten minutes later than scheduled, which will allow for a short build-up.

ESPN can be found on Foxtel at Channel 508, but is only available to those who hold a valid Foxtel TV subscription with the sports package.
