In a win for local rugby union fans, Melbourne will host six major Wallabies Test matches over the next eight years.

The fixtures will take in the 2020 Bledisloe Cup and a 2025 tour by the British and Irish Lions, with the first to be a clash against Ireland next year.

The Victorian government says the move will ensure rugby continues to grow at all levels in the state.
