To see what each horse is paying to win the Cup, you can have a look at their odds here.
With Derby Day run and done, it’s all eyes on the barrier draw for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup. Join The Roar for a live blog of the 2017 Melbourne Cup Barrier Draw, starting after Derby Day concludes, from 6:30pm AEDT.
This is the moment where the Melbourne Cup’s field of 24 gets sorted into their respective barriers for the big race, making it one of the most important events on the calendar in the leadup to the race itself.
In what shapes as another closely contested race, the barrier draw can determine who has the best look at it early, and who will struggle to find their spot in the pack.
The Stats
Gate five is where you want to be – it’s produced eight winners in the cup’s history. Next best is gate ten with seven horses saluting, followed by barriers 17, 14 and 11 – all one back with six.
Unlucky number 18 continues to hold true – no horse ever taking the chocolates from that spot.
At the end of the day though it’s true that a winner can come from anywhere.
I’ll leave the previews and predictions to tomorrow – but follow this blog for all the news from the Barrier Draw, as we find out who runs from where come Tuesday!
