KREJZA: Memories of receiving my Baggy Green cap

Former Australian spin bowler Jason Krejza sat down with The Roar to discuss what it was like receiving the call up to the national team.

“It was almost like winning the lottery, that’s what it felt like for me,” Krejza said.

Jason Krejza played cricket at the highest level, representing Australia during its 2008 tour of India. He is also one of a very few number of bowlers who have taken eight wickets in a Test innings, and one of two Australian bowlers to achieve the feat on his debut.

In his first test, Krejza produced figures of 8-215, which is the second-best figures for an Australian bowler on debut after Bob Massie.

While fans know him as the two-Test wonder who took down the likes of VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni on home soil, Krejza still remembers the moment that he was called into the national side.

Krejza’s international career may have been brief, however, it gave him priceless memories.

“I just had this amazing sense of, oh my god, I’m going to be touring with the actual Australian team.”

“Guys like Matthew Hayden, those guys were all still really big idols in my eyes and all of a sudden I was sitting on a plane next to him”

“The experience is really hard to describe.”
